Oh damn, I'm obviously not from NYC lol. Didn't know how extensive the district heating system was there.

This was literally exactly what Madison Cawthorne was, except that guy was so fucking stupid and bigoted that he couldn't even be bothered to show up for the votes the local landlord coalition paid him to show up for.

He just killed his position for clout then immediately got his leash yanked back and they euthanized him after one term. Can't even show his face in this district anymore and had to move to Florida.

The largest cannibalistic culture in the world by any measure was Victorian England.

Mumia was prescribed for everything from headaches to heart attacks—and a run on mummies followed. Suddenly, people were ransacking Egyptian tombs not just for jewelry or pottery, but for the bodies within, and canny salesmen began collecting and selling mummies. Demand quickly outpaced supply, leading to a brisk trade in fake mummies. Bodysnatchers and unethical tradespeople began turning fresh cadavers and the bodies of executed criminals, enslaved people, and others into “mummies” in an attempt to capitalize on the craze.

Bodysnatchers would “steal by night the bodies of such as were hanged,” wrote one observer, who noted the bodies were then embalmed with salt and drugs, dried in an oven, then ground into powder that apothecaries added to their home remedies.

I'd say that fits the bill for predatory cannibalism.

A mortadella sandwich would get my vote...

Also is so obvious that the right wing is just being derogatory and or racist with these narratives of "they're buying votes with "!" If that actually was the case, all they'd have to do is also provide cheap popular foodstuff, but no it's because their ideological basis and practical actions drive people away and the other group actually cares about people enough to feed them.

Do you have it where you live?

I know that it was a big part of new development under Stalin after the war, but it's incredibly uncommon in the US so the only real exposure to it I've had is through reading communist literature on development.

So I'm probably biased into thinking it was more common in the USSR than other places.

I think bigger US cities have had it in the past, but where I'm from the past (and present) is either oil/wood or heat pump.

Good idea for storing excess heat, but without Soviet style communal heat pipe networks it's basically useless because the transmission loss of distribution is already applied. And if you're using solar panels you'd have better luck just putting the pots in the sun and bringing them in later.

Either a steam engine or something less efficient

NAFTA was a success! It eliminated the pesky American labor unions and created a bumper crop of cheap labor!

Sometimes it can be fun, I used to go to the car show at a Sonic near downtown Asheville when I was in highschool and everyone would just try and race cops.

But these guys mostly just sit in their trucks or drive through town rolling coal on the locals

Greenville and the surrounding area up to Asheville is like a hot pocket. Small areas of the most violent, cruel chuds, then everyone else who's usually pretty cool.

The chuds never come into the towns unless it's to harass the locals. They almost entirely stay in their suburbs or in the grocery parking lots.
