Yeah I was worried this could become a problem, because I imagine a lot of chuds are turned off of lemmy because of the tankie devs. Which makes sense. But I don't think they should be welcome here, either. I'm trying to get away from that authoritarian shit, not get closer to the even worse kind of authoritarian shit.

No one needs to see this, you are throwing out extremely basic arguments that all of us encounter every day in this regressive society. You aren't speaking truth to power, you're just being part of the power right now. You aren't making yourself look good and you aren't making the world a better, freer, more nuanced, or happier place.

People: Hey, stop being a jackass.

Conservatives: OMG, yoU WANT TO CREATE A FAR LeFTIST ECHO CHAMBER

Every fucking time.

Is it just me or is there an unethical way to try and entrap reddit here by posting your real name, deleting the post, and seeing what happens?

I feel like emulation has come a long way in the past few years.

Honestly me too. I completely dropped out of playing games on emulators for awhile (various reasons, life stuff, you know how it is, just had less time for video games in general). Been getting back into it lately and it's refreshingly amazing how well everything works.

I journal and take notes regularly by hand and have written novel-length manuscripts in the last couple of years by hand. I prefer using fountain pens or else my hand cramps up. I don't know if it's better for my memory, but I prefer it for other reasons.

My process is to write a first draft by hand to minimize digital distractions. I take my notebook and pen somewhere without internet, and leave my laptop and phone behind. Then, I type it up, and this is a sort of "natural" 2nd draft process, as I obviously make smaller or larger edits as I'm re-reading my own work.

My mom still has notebooks from when she was in high school. Digital amnesia means I don't have any of my high school and college homework anymore. I developed this system because realized I was putting a lot of effort into managing digital backups of all of my drafts and shit when simple folders and stacks of paper would do fine. But really, I mostly do it because I have ADHD, and using computers to write longform drafts is difficult. Typewriters and notebooks that only do one thing make things more straightforward for me. So, I get why most people don't approach things this way in 2023.

I hear you. The best I can do is tell myself that hopefully the Coast Guard personnel and other mariners got some practice/training which will be useful in emergencies in the future. And it's still right to try and save someone, even if they put themselves in the dangerous situation.

Yep. All that has to happen is Valve gets bought out or significantly changes leadership direction, and my entire Steam "collection" could be fuckin worthless. I don't like it.

people who see drug use as the same whether it be meth or weed.

But they are correct about this part, there is no ethical or moral difference between using amphetamines and using cannabis.

And they don’t see beer the same way usually.

Well, they're incorrect about that part. But I'm not going to change the way I talk just because other people are wrong. Think about it: I'd never stop changing the way I talk.

But we’re having a conversation about perception here.

Absolutely.

I worked as a chemical dependency counselor for years with all types of addicts. To me, alcohol is scarier than all of them. Quitting drugs is never fun or easy, but alcohol withdrawal will kill you straight up. One cannot quit cold turkey. In my opinion, alcohol is the hardest drug yet invented, it just also happens to be more socially acceptable than the other ones. Challenging this perception is something I care about quite a bit.

I prefer subs even when playing video games and watching movies/TV in my native language. However, I think part of why gamers prefer it is movies are at least scripted to the point where it's unlikely that a loud noise will go off in the middle of an actor's line. In a video game, there could be dynamic sound effects at any time right in the middle of a line.
