Facial recognition in smartphones is a very different thing from basically every point of view. Are you sure you don't know a single person using an iPhone? Chances are they'll be using FaceID to unlock their phone.
I don't think I know a single person NOT using biometrics to unlock their smartphone.
Edit: I'm sure there at least 3 people on Lemmy that don't use biometrics but that doesn't change anything I'm pretty sure :D

BeaconDB has been a thing for a while now and there is a decent amount of data already... but ideally you'd want it to be reliable in as many places as possible.
You can also use it as your location provider with geoclue (default on heaps of Linux distros) and microG on Android which I find incredibly useful on my Laptop!
So please, if you have an Android phone, consider contributing. It literally takes seconds to set up and requires no account or API keys.

- as of version 1.5.1, just click yes when prompted to set the endpoint to beaconDB

This is unfortunately the truth.
I'd like to use a dumb phone, it does help me quite a bit since I have difficulties dealing with distractions… but even as someone who is very detached from the entire social media lifestyle (although I obviously use Lemmy lol) it's quite difficult nowadays.
I tried… But even simple things like getting my grandma to call me using the normal phone app on her smartphone instead of WhatsApp is basically impossible.
