This. Instagram was probably amazing back when it only had people who looked good in pics and/or were good at taking pics, and only posted stuff if it was particularly interesting. Rather than the whole world being sorta forced to put random pics on there.

Yeah let’s be honest if the PCMR reddit community had the chance to holocaust console gamers they probably would. Here in the Fediverse we’re more civilized and gentlemanly and accepting but I think the name is fine, no one will go nazi over it.

There’s a quite a difference in saying that about someone’s home country, which is a pain in the ass to leave, vs about a community people can opt into and which does not really shape their lives

It’s just a happy coincidence for them, they call it AI because calling it “a search engine that steals stuff instead of linking to it and blends different sources together to look smarter” wouldn’t be as interesting to clueless financial markets people

The actual win is if the Google algorithm starts to deprioritize reddit results due to communities being privated.

Edit: I can even see Google or other big techs pouncing on the opportunity to take the community for themselves, or simply using search deprioritization to drive reddit to the brink and buying it out

I mean, it only has this basic web interface on mobile and it’s already much more intuitive than the official reddit app they’re trying to push…

Well they still get view counts / active-user counts. Not being logged in (or not having an account) helps.

Awesome. I see no issue with it… only thing I’d add is that it would probably be morally encouraged, when it comes to subs with creative/non-obvious concepts to 1) allow for the mods who created the original to mod here if they want and 2) stay true to the original idea of the sub. As a homage to the mods and users who fostered the original community.

Well I’m a simpler man, I registered for it before knowing any others existed, so here I am
