I'd say it's more of a darkly ironic situation than a joke, but the humor comes from the juxtaposition of this apparently mutual and heartfelt expression of romantic fidelity against its unrealistically immediate violation by one party

Are you thinking of cerebral achromatopsia, rather than congenital achromatopsia? As far as I can tell, rod monochromats really do see in grayscale.

I truly cannot stress enough how utterly socially unacceptable it is to correct someone's pronunciation of their own name. In this respect, names are different from other kinds of words. Please reconsider this embarrassing position of yours.
