I wanted a laptop with a long battery life with good power efficiency. Many of the x86 based laptop can be faster than the macbook and may even have long battery life, but if you run a heavy workflow the cpu will either throttle to save power or run down the battery at a very accelerated rate. I am not particularly tied to any ecosystem.
The laptop also has a nice screen and keyboard, but so do many of the windows laptops.
On thing I do not like about the mac are the lack of expandability. The base models are often a good deal but the price shoots up if you customized it with more memory or storage, which you can't even expand later.
