Thanks Buddy! I got so wrapped up in the ai debacle that I didn't look into my question any further ๐Ÿ˜… I was actually initially trying to find out where the German designations of "baby", "lady", "mono", and "mignon" come from. Haven't gotten very far on that end either ๐Ÿค”

Let me know if you find anything ๐Ÿ˜…

So I was looking into the history of battery naming conventions. this is imo the absolute best thing about the internet, quickly finding information on very niche topics. I was really excited that somebody actually made a video about the exact weird question I had just asked myself and couldn't find out enough about on wikipedia! I was however quickly disappointed to realize that it's basically just shitty AI slop designed to play the youtube algorithm and generate watch time. at 1:24 the way the sentence is phrased is not only a dead giveaway, it's also detrimental to the understandability of the content, not that there is really any meaningful information being conveyed in this video beyond the immediately obvious. then at 3:01 the battery shown is so totally not an A battery!! that's an ignition dry cell, the precursor to the LR40, the thing is 15 cm tall and can hold 40 fucking amp-hours! just look at those huge fucking screw contacts on the top!!! that's where I realized what was going on. these guys are spreading worthless, misleading falsehoods, poisoning the well of information we call the internet, and at the very least they're parasites, leaching away our time on this earth just so they can make a couple of pennies worth of profit. it breaks my heart ๐Ÿ’”

Yeah. AA batteries suck though! I'd be happy if they used 14500 cells or something. but the form factor was probably the issue, the controller is a chonk in the middle already with the flat battery pack

I think the point being made was that the enzyme used to break down cellulose is only made by bacteria, whereas the enzymes used to break down carbs, fats, and proteins are produced by the pancreas. Digestion is complicated though, teeth and stomach acid are also digesting in a way so it's all an oversimplification

not be held back by trying to shoehorn modern software on retro computing devices.

So I admit that I am just a user and have basically no idea what goes on behind the scenes in development, but for me, shoehorning stuff into retro devices is kind of a defining feature of Linux. It runs on just about everything, full stop. I suppose that can be a blessing and a curse, but it does make me a little sad especially in the context of this rust fever where everyone seems to think that this one thing will magically solve all the problems. Seems a bit short-sighted to me. Also because I thought I'd move to Debian since Ubuntu has been forcing snaps onto me...

their next article should be "how to maintain support of a fairphone 101" because I think they desperately need a refresher

I haven't had a great experience with my fairphone 4. app/phone crashes, ghost touching, now they announced that they're skipping support for Android 14, technical support has also been rather unresponsive. to top it off, they are usually very late with their security patches and apparently their verified boot implementation is horrible, they use the aosp test keys (which are publicly available) to cryptographically sign their firmware, which completely negates the point of the thing. I guess that's on par with the software support in general...

so yeah, can't recommend the company as is unfortunately ๐Ÿ˜•

I've had problems with ghost touches on my fp4. customer service just doesn't respond. I also get weird app crashes. can't recommend the company like this. long term support was the whole point!!

I will be reporting this to the American Association Against Acronym Abuse!

fun fact, the machinery used to make cereal and pet food is often exactly the same.

edit: for clarification, I don't mean they share a production line but the machines can be used to make either.

the sauna picture was a weird example though...

That headline is so stupid that I refuse to read the article
