Yeah, I feel like it matters a lot which parent is 1) more engaged/active/shares your interests 2) nicer/more understanding.

Ah, sorry haha

I believe "instances" here refers to Fediverse instances, not Reddit

Bump. I know thebrainbin.org uses Anubis, so probably no Cloudfare? Not 100% sure if they automatically accept registration, but there doesn't appear to be any "enter a reason why you want to join" field like on a bunch of Fediverse sites that don't.

Fun. Hilarious. The chapters are definitely longer than what I can see so far with "What If?", so that's a point to "How To?" in my book, but there are subchapters if you need them. If you enjoy science and xkcd's sense of humour it's definitely a great read.

Hey, what a coincidence! I'm reading "What If?" too haha. Started reading his books with "How To?" since I wasn't sure if these two were for me (and if I wanted to buy it when there's a channel), but I'm hooked.

Someone on !crochet@lemmy.ca asked me about crossposting over here - if posts like these (without real snakes) are not allowed/welcome please let me know!

Here's a view from the top:

Somewhat short blue snake amigurumi curled up (slinky-like). Top view.

Based on the blue insularis pit viper. Didn't have a good pair of brown buttons so I went with "gray" (pale blue)!

Thank you!

Looking at two articles I'm not sure it'd count as mosaic crochet since I only worked into the last round, never* the round before that. I think it's just a colour change?

Sometimes I carried the unused thread all the way, sometimes I crocheted it in for the first stitch or two of using a new colour and then left it to grab later (this makes it so there's free thread going through the middle). This applies to the stripes on the tail, too - it's just starting and ending the second colour in different places, no working into rows already worked into.

/*aside from whatever that was once or twice when there was a big enough hole ;')

Not at all! What does crossposting mean on the threadiverse? Is it just reposting or posting a link?

Here's a view from the top. Most of the body was just continuously crocheted curved (dec on one side, inc on the other), then I sewed it up a bit to hold the shape I wanted. It's kind of short for a snake, since its length was mostly depended on the belly colour which was (at the start) 1 used, continuous ball and 2 balls of scraps, but I'm happy it got as far as it did anyway ;)

It seems a lot of people have points up in the thousands, but the reputation points tab on profiles doesn't seem to suggest that they actually got that many up/downvotes. One time it looked like the final score shouldn't even be a positive number, but it was. Is it a multiplication thing? Or a hidden numbers/communities thing messing with the tab in profiles?

Title!

I'm currently making a Venipede stuffed toy - it might be a bit wacky, but it's mine ;) (it also makes me oddly oscillate from "that might not be enough yarn" to "I have a lot still, let's add another row!")

I also recently (or semi-recently?) made a Tokay gecko plushie from a modified version of a pattern by Ellie Skene - not sure if mbin/lemmy is gonna let me link it (please note that the pattern written out is in UK terms, so "dc" is single crochet for the US terms crew!)

meta note!anyone else noticed the only moderator here hasn't been active in 2 years? if anyone wants to step up maybe you can ask for mod status at communityrequests@lemmy.ca
