Bug Report

Describe the issue: If posts are marked read, either by viewing the post or its image, and then you change the sort setting, this will reset the post back to unread.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. View a post
  2. Change the sort setting

EDIT: Some posts keep their read status but if you view your feed, view some posts, and then change the sort setting, most of not all of those recently viewed posts will be marked unread.

Unfortunately there's an issue with turning it on. I was viewing this post and noticed that viewing it the first time is fine. When you reopen the post and try to scroll up from the bottom of the post, the app let's you for a split second before seemingly preventing the scroll action. Turning off the setting lets you scroll fine on revisits with the caveat that you need to refresh to view comments.

[–] sirxdaemon@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 days ago

I had that off and turning it on does fix it. Guess I'll turn it on.

Can you add the gallery icon in the bottom right of the thumbnail for list view as well? It's a useful indicator when the option is enabled but unavailable for list view it seems.

[–] sirxdaemon@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 days ago (3 children)

It's still happening in 297.

In v1.296s, some posts will not load comments, that loaded fine when first accessing it. You need to refresh the post for the comments to load again. This consistently happens with a lower comment count. Posts with over 50 comments will load properly every time. Not sure of the exact number but those with under two dozen or so will not load comments when you view it a second time.

EDIT: Okay so that number is 40. 39 it won't load. 40 will.

This seems to still be a problem in v296. For edited posts, the edited post will not be shown after you submit the edit. Going back and refreshing the post will still not update view. You need to close Connect and reopen to view the post properly.

The other problem of posts not showing comments when you view them also remains. It seems limited to posts you've edited. So viewing posts you've made but haven't edited is fine. This happens intermittently so if you don't see it right away, just view another post and go back to your edited post. The problem does not go away even after reopening Connect.

Dev did just that. In v1.296 you can now specify the max cache size. I think 2GB is the default but you can totally up that yourself.

Yeah, still an issue in 296s unfortunately. Guess I'll go back to card view until it's resolved.

EDIT: The problem does go away if you turn off opening links in an external browser. Also, of it helps any, I use URLCheck for my external browser.

So I'm on card view until list view and the download images bug is fixed and I come across this video post that also includes photos. The gallery option collapsed the photos but I'm not sure how to access the gallery? I'm normally on list view so maybe someone who uses card view can clue me in.

I'm sure the dev has the details of your issue on their tracker and works on it when they can. Unfortunately the problem seems rare and the cause unclear so it remains elusive for the time being.

Perhaps it's time to check out one of the other Lemmy apps and maybe check back sometime in the future if you're still looking for a daily driver.

Wasn't Connect supposed to automatically trim the image cache if it reached a certain size? Something like 5GB should be plenty, I think.

[–] sirxdaemon@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 days ago

I can't read that in dark mode either. It's all black after tapping on the white spoiler bar. Works fine in the browser.

First noticed these two in 293 but they remain in 295s. I'm on list view and tapping on any image in my feed brings a pop-up to download the image. This includes posts that have a thumbnail as well as image posts. Also the change view selection in the overflow menu on my feed doesn't work.

EDIT: For those experiencing the image download issue, switching to card view resolves it. You can't do it through the overflow menu so you need to go into Settings, tap on Post Customizations and change it in there.

EDIT2: If you're on v296 and still prefer list view, turning off the setting that open links in the external browser will fix the pictures issue. Hopefully both options can coexist again in a future update.

No worries. But I did already imported the old settings file. It's mostly user notes lost but those can be re-entered. Perhaps a convenient feature for the future could be regular automatic backup of settings.

With v293, or maybe it was 292/1, I was at the login screen when I opened the app, after it updated presumably. After logging in, all the Settings were reset. I logged into the same account, the one I'm using, and had to restore from an old backup. Lost user notes as the export was from earlier in the year. Hopefully the app can mitigate this with an automatic export before logging out or something.

Also a reminder to myself and the reader to backup your settinga more frequently. I should be doing so while on the beta builds.

[–] sirxdaemon@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 months ago

The latest version is 1.0.275. I just tried saving a picture and it worked fine. That is a beta build so you will need to join the beta. This can be done from the Connect app page from the Play Store or App Store. Usually enrolling is a few minutes but sometimes you may not have the option to update for a couple of hours.

I think it would be useful to have the option for Connect to pull from the modlog and show the original comment when it is removed by a mod. The reason I manually do this is to facilitate my tagging of users. Oftentimes a comment is removed for good reason and I can tag people as a racist, etc. An inline option by the "Removed by a mod" comment, when viewing posts would be convenient.

I thought maybe it's running a MediaTek chipset or something but no, it's a Snapdragon. Then I was thinking maybe it's an issue with Connect saving to an SD card but this device doesn't have a slot. I don't think it's a hardware or OS problem either. Have you tried changing the download directory? If it's not the normal Download folder, maybe try changing to that. If it is, try Documents or just the internal storage root.

Some have upvoted the post and presumably because they've also experienced something similar and if that's the case, it would be helpful if additional perspective and information can be provided.

Post your nugget of info and hopefully we can all learn something new!

This is somewhat recent but I want to mention this for other players like myself who wasn't aware. You can surprise attack using a 90 degrees wall bend and a reach weapon. Specifically, leading a mob around the bend and attacking once you see it again. You do need to hug the walls on the last two tiles of the bend and then you're free to keep hugging or move diagonally. Obviously, this isn't meant for square rooms and similar right angled walls but ones where you can escape line of sight to make the surprise attack.

I knew you could do a lunge attack, with the duelist, with blind spots; like if you can't see a mob that's behind some tall grass, a stone pillar, or you're in a garden, but I just realised you could do the same through doors. This will help with managing the sewers, crabs in particular. I assume door lunges should benefit as a surprise attack as well.

Just saw a post on the voting history that Voyager has as a feature and I think it would be neat feature to adopt. Even for users like myself that makes use of user tagging already, I think it would still be useful and complimentary.

This may also provide a bit of a framework for different requested feature, a history of your upvoted and down voted posts. I didn't use it much on Sync for Reddit but it was situationally useful.

Maybe hermit crabs could be spawned intentionally? Say, a sewer crab has a 10%(or maybe 25) chance of fleeing when at 50% HP or lower. When the crab finds its way next to a barrel, it takes a turn before turning into a full health hermit crab.

This change would let the player decide whether to permit the transformation, provided they have the means to take down the fleeing crab, and gain a risk-reward scenario. With the abundance of barrels, if you're taking on a crab next to some, the fight could escalate quickly.

Each spawn rate in this way probably needs to reduce the flee rate by half to limit farming.
