Children of Memory was a really good book on this topic.

I don't think it makes sense to criticize grass in areas where it's a native ground-cover plant. Green lawns are bad in North America because they require an absurd amount of resources to stay alive. European lawns stay green under heavy layers of snow and are never watered.

They should all grow the fuck up. I don't have a lot of sympathy for people who would rather play passive-aggressive games than sort the situation.

I'm not sure how this relates to the practical functionality of anarchy. How is the bin situation bettered under a governmental system?

Does Joel dislike being the bin guy? He could just stop doing it.

Is Joel doing a shitty job with the bins? Anyone could start doing it, even if he protests.

I don't see the problem.

Hikeback is a visual novel horror game based on the story of the scorpion and the frog that I found very moving.

e: If you prefer to watch stories rather than play them, I believe this is a full playthrough:

Am I a bad person for considering doing this to my partner's computer without their knowledge or consent?

I think the usage there isn't meant to be correct, but incorrect as a joke. It's like how I've seen people call themselves a tran. (Trans is obviously plural.)

Wikipedia describes communism as a stateless society.

A communist society entails the absence of private property and social classes, and ultimately money and the state.

In response to the question "What will be the course of this revolution?" in The Principles of Communism (1847), Friedrich Engels wrote: "Above all, it will establish a democratic constitution, and through this, the direct or indirect dominance of the proletariat." While Marxists propose replacing the bourgeois state with a proletarian semi-state through revolution (dictatorship of the proletariat), which would eventually wither away, anarchists warn that the state must be abolished along with capitalism. Nonetheless, the desired end results (a stateless communal society) are the same.

How do you explain the existence of anarchist communism if the two are mutually exclusive?

A convection oven circulates hot air around the food to maintain an even cooking temperature.

An air fry uses a much stronger flow of hot air, and the air is not circulated but instead evacuated from the cooking chamber

My convection oven works the way you describe the air fryer. I'm shocked to learn they actually make them without vents. Why do they do this??

Are you using a wire basket/rack/similar in the convention oven, or a solid pan/dish?

we’re building a socialist state for the transition

Why is that necessary/beneficial?

This is going to contain spoilers through season 1 episode 10.

My tastes in media have become somewhat more demanding as I've gotten older. I used to enjoy pretty much anything with a fun adventure, but now I need my entertainment to also be educational or growth-provoking in some way.

I mostly enjoyed episodes 1-7 because even though it was a cute slice of life, it was coming at it from a more unique angle of how we form and value relationships and I felt that it was emotionally meaningful.

But then by episodes 9 and 10 suddenly all these villains have really specific quirks, and the combat is drawn-out as characters over-exposit every detail of what's going on. They even tell you what's going to happen with the fight well before it ever occurs, and then they still drag out the result for some reason. It was very disappointing and I'm concerned this is just going to be the state of things from now on.

I got kind of excited about the way Frieren was talking about demons because her beef with them sounds a lot like what a pig or chicken would think of humans, and I got almost a racist vibe, but my partner's reaction made it seem like we're not going to get introspective about our biases and hipocrisy, and he suggested we move on to something else. (He's read the comic and wanted to watch the show together.)

Thoughts? I'd like to think the story is going somewhere, but it won't be good for our relationship if it just ends up with me complaining the whole time.

One time on IRC the topic of what Boxing Day even is came up, and this guy said in seriousness that it's to memorialize the Boxer Rebellion, and we had a big fight about it. He backed up his claim by pointing out that the horse from Animal Farm was an allegory for said uprising, so he wasn't just making things up.
