Dibs on the name USA. They can be Donlandia or the Kingdom of Magastan or Dumbass Island.

In the last few years, DeSantis also promoted new laws seeking to expand the death penalty, to allow it in cases of people who sexually assault children, for instance

Sounds like Ron doesn't want Don coming back to Florida.

I'd take that bet. I'll stake my position that they just ignore the law altogether.

Guess that makes Bill Maher the exception that proves the rule.

This guy's right. Isn't that the one where they made Janet show us her titty? Never forget!

It's not cheap to wage a war on your fellow citizens.

The report also found students were “reluctant to speak their minds, especially on controversial political issues”, with many admitting that “they self-censor regularly, avoid certain topics entirely, and doubt their administrators would defend free expression if controversy struck”.

I would be relectant to speak my mind in that situation too. Everything is recorded and uploaded now. Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

The end of jobs is actually a good thing if we can commit to taking care of one another and prioritizing the safety of the human race over the desires of billionaires. So, we're probably fucked.

I smell another taxpayer funded bailout for the rich on the horizon.

The key question: Is this all high-minded political talk from people who will be gone when Mandarin becomes the lingua franca on the Moon?

Fucking nailed it right there. You can't bully or bluster your way to the moon. It takes a willingness to continue projects over decades and that hasn't existed at NASA for a long time. By the time China has established a presence at Shakelton, it will be too late for a wake up call. China is investing in science while we're telling ours to leave for opportunities elsewhere. We're burying the future and half the country is applauding it.

Incredibly risky decision to conduct this mission and it's pretty risky to publish this account if DPRK really did not know about it because they're still going to want to retaliate. It also seems pretty stupid to have a bunch of non coms conduct a mission in enemy territory under a communications blackout. Was there not a single officer to command the mission on the ground? The consequences of failure could literally have been nuclear war.
