Well, this thread has strengthened my desire to adopt a teen from foster care. I technically have/had a family but they were more like roommates than parents. Left at 18 and never looked back. Had my share of lonely holidays that I would dread when they came around. I'm not trying to say I've had the same story as those here, but I get some parts of it really well. I'm finally at a place where maybe I can prevent that from happening to someone else.

This is the first I'm hearing of this author, but seems like it: wiki

I vaguely remember it being put on hold for some alignment with European privacy laws or something along those lines.

English is a descriptive language instead of prescriptive, so make it happen!

You're not alone. I tried reading them and the premise was something I could get behind but the way it was written drove me crazy. I agree that if they had a better translator to make it sound more native English, I probably would have been fine with it. Bit as it stands it sounded very Chinese still. I'm hoping the show will solve that problem for us.

That was my thought when they said X identified as conservative, Y liberal, the rest moderate or unsure.

How about none of the above since they're all right of center?

Because our whole government operates as if this still the 1800s and the only thing holding us together is the Pony Express.

If you want to dip your toes, go with something easy. Pop_os or Linux Mint are the two most often suggested. Lesser offered but with a Mac OS feel is Elementary.

But the ~~the rich people's yacht money~~ economy is doing well!

If this happens, will it be a mass exodus to Linux/Mac? Or will people just live with it? The fact that the Steam Deck has shown great promise in playing games on Linux has made me reconsider Windows yet again.

A victory for the RCV campaign in November 2024 would be a significant breakthrough for voting justice, as it would liberate voters in Oregon from being required to vote for just one candidate.

I recently discovered that bridges exist on Matrix allowing you to communicate with others on different platforms.

I would love to make use of this, but I lack the technical abilities to spin up my own server… at least not without a step-by-step for noobs. Does anyone know of a server that's open to join that has bridges available to use? I tried joining a few open servers, but they didn't seem to have bridges enabled/installed.

Or barring that some reasonably priced turnkey service? I saw one that was $22/mo for up to 50 users, but that seems a bit much for just me.

Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek signed a bill into law Tuesday that will increase punishments for people caught street racing in the state, the latest effort by lawmakers to crack down on dangerous and sometimes deadly street takeovers that have snarled city streets for years.
