One of my favorite moments in comics comes from the 1970 Green Lantern / Green Arrow run. Green Arrow rescues a kid from getting run over by a train, and rather than celebrate the victory, he laments that the city didn't have a park where this kid could play safely. He considers running for mayor, and the rest of the Justice League talk him out of it.

As a kid, it was the first time I saw a comic look at the reader and say, "Yeah, these capes really are just fantasy. If you want the world to be better, you can't leave it to other people."

When I found out about the 501st Legion, I was absolutely baffled. George Lucas dressed the bad guys to look like Nazis, and now fans were dressing up as the bad guys because they love the movies so much? What the fuck is wrong with these people?

Then Captain America came out and people started dressing as Hydra agents, and I was like, "Oh, they're just straight-up okay with Nazis. Got it."

There's no chance of that happening without some kind of election interference. New Yorkers hate Cuomo. He resigned in disgrace because he's a sexual predator and because he spent COVID killing everyone's grandparents and lying about it. By the time he resigned in disgrace, he was a full mask-off villain.

He's a nepo-baby politician that got to play King of New York for a very short time because of his daddy's connections. Born on third base and thinks he hit a triple. He's only doing this at all because, even though he resigned in disgrace, he thinks he's owed a shot at the White House, and mayor of New York is a first step back into the field.

I genuinely believe Alan Chartok would have a better shot at being mayor at this point.

Hollow Knight was just so much well-curated content for the price. I got it on sale for $7.50, and after I played through it, I had to go buy it again at the full $15 because I felt like I'd ripped Team Cherry off.

Small indie film? Dear Zachary is a documentary produced on a shoestring budget, and it is an absolutely devastating piece of art. Just thinking about the film puts a lump in my throat.

Who keeps greenlighting this guy? He had a couple of good seasons of Doctor Who, maybe one and a half of Sherlock, but it's otherwise all been pretty insufferable.

tells the true story of a downed airman in occupied France and how he got involved with the French Resistance

My grandfather went through this exact circumstance. The French Resistance helped him get to a secret camp full of British and American soldiers, and they spent most of the war hiding in the countryside and digging little holes so they could play mini-golf with hand-carved clubs.

Yep, same situation for me. "Ambidextrous" roughly means "two right hands," so I like to joke that I'm ambisinistral - I've got two left hands.

Punch Drunk Love is a masterpiece. Simultaneously one of the funniest and most heartbreaking films I've ever seen in my life.

This reminds me of a Joey Comeau story I saw published fifteen or twenty years ago. The narrator's wife had died, so he programed a computer to read her old journal entries aloud in her voice, at random throughout the day.

It was profoundly depressing and meant to be fiction, but I guess every day we're making manifest the worst parts of our collective imagination.

Kodak has been circling the drain for decades. I'm shocked they've lasted this long.

What do we think about Everybody's Gone to the Rapture for this? There is a plot, there is a story, but you as the player have no active role in it. You don't even see it play out in real time. You're just there, after, looking at the holes left behind. Nothing changes from the start of the game until the end.

I absolutely loved it, but typing that out, I suddenly realize why most people thought it was really boring.
