Scientists: Brown = Orange

In the sense that brown is a very dark orange, and “very dark” just means there isn’t much light but the colour of the light that there is, is orange.

We are orange-haired orange-skinned people wearing orange shoes and orange leather jackets, own orange wallets, living in orange wood houses near orange and green Forrests with our orange pets.

Right. So that is what we need to change.

Yes. That is how the internet will be used, to a significant degree. Even today AI represents an extremely powerful and astonishingly human-adapted user interface.

The internet brought a vast quantity of knowledge together and made it accessible to anyone, in theory. In practice you need arcane knowledge to get what you want. You need to wiggle the mouse just so, need to know the abstract structure of the internet, the peculiarities of search terms, … it’s eminently doable but it’s not natural or intuitive. You must be taught how to use it.

If you put a medieval Tamil farmer in a room with a ChatGPT audio interface they could use it and have access to all of that internet knowledge.

I understand a lot of the backlash against AI but I don’t get hating on it because of how good of an interface it makes.

At 40:

  • the hugely comedic full sprint when someone holds the door
  • the floating daintily across freshly mopped floors
  • the careless instantaneous turn without slowing down first
  • the art of interrupting

People often say to vote with your wallet, but really if you want meaningful change it has to be backed by legislation so you must vote with your vote.

The plastic prong is on devices that don’t get their protection from having an earthed case but by having double insulation. They should have a square with a square inside symbol.

If an item has exposed metal that might become live then they connect it to earth to prevent this.

If an item has no exposed metal, what would you connect the earth to?

“You now have a fork in the road. Add it to your inventory.” “Do you mean a fork?” “No.”

I don’t know about their description of negative cuil, the examples they gave of positive cuil definitely have a logarithmic nature to them so negative cuil would just get ever closer to 0 abstraction without ever getting there.

Cardboard boxes are so expensive if you have to buy them for some reason, but free in a lot of scenarios, bulky to keep if you don’t need them and moisture sensitive, but you will need them again, but is it soon enough to be worth the inconvenience of storing them... It’s not trivial.
