I would like to see the host push ads, so that it's sustainable. It doesn't have anything negative to the community except it will sustain the instance do does the Fediverse.

I don't want to be telling the devs what to do with their software, but it is crucial for an everyday app like this to be open-source bc of privacy and security.

Small irc network and reddit-like public communities are vastly different. Both have their worth. Lemmy is surely capable of either of them.
