Look, if you want some place to post politics, there are countless spaces on lemmy for it.

If you want some place to post nearly anything, 4chan's /b/ could use some more content than endless "share images from social media you wank to" threads. They'd also be far more receptive to your shitty attitude too. But considering you couldn't figure out how to post this without downloading an app, you might just be too stupid to figure it out.

Yes, Librewolf, the browser built entirely off... Firefox.

I appreciate their take vs. Mozilla's, but they wouldn't exist without Firefox in the first place.

A big part of the shift from lemmy to piefed seems to be that piefed has a faster development cadence, and that the developers of lemmy are openly tankies.

The flagship Lemmy instance, as in ran by the devs, is lemmy.ml. The ml stands for marxist-leninist. The lead dev regularly bans people from the entire instance for so much as questioning Chinese and Russian ~~propaganda~~ news sources, and they have many many other very controversial takes. There are some comms across the fediverse that document a lot of this, like !meanwhileongrad@sh.itjust.works

From a sticky there, the lead dev Dessalines denies the Tiananmen Square massacre and praises the Uyghur genocide.

So far as I'm aware, the piefed devs haven't been involved in any drama, and aren't posting hardline shit about their political beliefs either.

Some of the many ways to bypass making a Microsoft account required hitting the shell in the installer for a moment, but the example screenshot looks more like someone removing shit post-install.

The short guide to not performing CBT with Windows is:

  • Grab install media for Pro or LTSC (Pro is better if you aren't a turbo-nerd willing to troubleshoot more)
  • Strip out the versions you aren't installing from the install media (forget the tool for this, probably dism)
  • Install updates to the install media so you aren't stuck with it updating for a day post-install (forget the tool for this part too, sorry)
  • Strip out bloat and unneeded shit (such as onedrive) using DISM
  • Install using whatever the current workaround is to not have to make a Microsoft account
  • Keep the damn thing offline, adjust settings, configure GPO, use powershell to remove anything more you want out, etc to your desires
  • Notably: Disable "reccomendations" in the various spots, those are ads. Set updates to be delayed considerably and to not force restart until a week after first notification (you can no longer disable this entirely). Disable web search from the start menu/search bar.
  • Maybe move a few "cleaning/configuring" tools over via USB and run them
  • Use MASgrave to spoof a license you horrible degenerate
  • Keep detailed notes of every step you do, as sometimes games amd shit will have dumbass dependencies on system parts that they don't expect you to remove

Not as much as we have to now.

I'm usually a Windows shield-bearer around these parts, because it's not quite as much of a dumpster fire as people say (please for the love of god don't debate me on this, I prefer Linux and have better things to do), but this is inarguably something Windows has gotten far far worse at. Out of the box experience (besides having to shove drivers into the install media) used to be a pretty definitive thing that Windows beat Linux on. Install and it "just werkd". It used to be the cornerstone of pushback, that Linux required you to tinker and Windows didn't. But Microsoft destroyed their lead in that so they only have (fast dwindling) business appeal and entrenchment to lean on now.

Ugh yeah. I've been slowly backing up my wife's, my parents', and my own music CDs, and while it thankfully hasn't gotten to many of them, it's ate enough to be annoying.

Especially because my wife's collection is mostly very specific performances of classical music and operas, which can make finding rips difficult when it's not a particularly popular recording.

And the CD-Rs are almost all toast. I'm lucky the old family PC HDDs still have most of the old family photos, so I've been able to back them up. Can't believe we used to think that backing up the pictures to disc would last longer.

I do sys admin/engineering work in a Windows environment. PowerShell is what got me this job, and together with my programming experience allows me to keep up with my seniors who have been in their positions for a decade or more.

It also helps us all make a good team. They have the knowledge and experience advantage (though I'm catching up), I have the skills to figure out how to implement/automate the plans in a way that doesn't involve days of mind numbing manual actions.

Unfortunately, yes.

You're looking at AI upscaling as a shortcut to the end result you want: your book. But from experience, jumping to the end of something robs you of the joy and accomplishment of doing the hard work to get there.

Instead ask if the book really needs illustrations. If it does, wouldn't taking the time to do them right be better? It would also give you more time to revise the other aspects of it.

If this is something you're passionate about, don't douse water on that fire by cheating to the end. If it's not something you're passionate about, why do it in your free time to begin with? If you think you'll somehow make money off it, you'll have plenty more hurdles to go through that can't be AI'd away. If it's just a passion project, use that fucking passion.

I understand the intense desire to just be great at something without putting all the effort in. But there really are no shortcuts to this shit. The main advantage that other people have over you on this is that they started earlier, so they have more time put into it already.

If your friend group doesn't let you use proxy cards, they aren't your friends.

3 days old too. Absolutely just a rage bait account.

The largest size cups are often, but not always, thin as hell plastic.

So you get more free plastic waste with your beetus.

"What size is a medium?"

They'd just grab the cup to show you. Where do you live that the workers would actually reply to you with the actual measurement?

So I'm coming back to the game after a two year break. I didn't get too deep into the game before, mostly doing low level combat and trading.

I was wondering what resources people more familiar with the game would suggest I check out for getting into some of the other content like mining, exobiology, and exploration. I'd like to take a shot at the basics of the different gameplay loops/styles before I start trying to get into the deeper content like engineering.

Unfortunately a lot of guides I've found seem to focus on maximum optimization before you even try to get into the content. I don't want to do an engineering grind, or grind to get an FC, before I figure out if I even like the type of gameplay it's going to make easier.

We've heard the anguished screams of the Funhole community for an alternative to the Funhole Times. For a hard hitting publication unafraid to dig deep, unrestrained by concepts like "common sense", "integrity", "anti-treason laws", "libel lawsuits", and "basic measures of competence".

We're proud to bring you a snippet of the inaugural issue of the Funhole Gazette, and we hope some competition will drive us all to make even better content in the new year!

We also vigorously deny any allegations of sabotage of the Funhole Times facilities.

New Ed! Not much particularly new info, just a general lament and summary of the state of tech and how much has been pinned on magical thinking. Has some wonderfully quotable sections.

What if what we're seeing today isn't a glimpse of the future, but the new terms of the present? What if artificial intelligence isn't actually capable of doing much more than what we're seeing today, and what if there's no clear timeline when it'll be able to do more? What if this entire hype cycle has been built, goosed by a compliant media ready and willing to take career-embellishers at their word?

Please forgive my addition to the title, as it's meant to be a play on "Waiting for Godot", not a comment on the Godot game engine. Wanted to make that more clear than the title alone would.

Like all the best technology departments, I'm a one man army rockstar. That's a problem when I'm a bottle of everclear deep into my holiday plans, and I don't think I can get away with hiding another replacement cellphone in the budget if I throw mine in the lake again.

So how do you guys keep everything running while you're out?

This old youtube poop has ruined Le Mis for me. Sends me into the giggles. Can't believe this poop is 11 years old. An absolute classic from DaThings.

Prisoner 24602064^5^1! You're no one. Lol. Your time is up ^and your time is up^ and I'm Javert! You know what that means.

It means I'm free~e~e^e^e~e~e^e^e~e~e^e^e~e~e^e^e~e~e^e^e.

Spooky stuff that helps explain a lot of the dysfunction flowing out from Microsoft.

From the Jet Set Radio Future Soundtrack. Whole thing is great, along with most of Naganuma's tracks.

Yoko Taro is the creative director behind the Nier and Drakengard series, and he has released a lot of supplemental material across a variety of mediums over the years in Japan. Accord's Library is a site that is dedicated to finding this material, archiving it, and translating it.

Today, in Accord's Library Discord, they announced that they received a Cease and Desist from Square-Enix, and on Oct 31, the Library and Gallery sections of the site will be closed and taken offline.

Announcement TextDearest Recorders and Observers of Accord's Library.

These past few years have been a pleasure, but we regret to inform you all that we've been contacted by the Square Enix Legal Team. And after some private communications, based on the outlined requirements we have come to the conclusion that Accord's Library must close its doors by the end of the month. While we are sad to have to go, we also must respect the wishes of the Legal Team.

The Library and Gallery will remain opened for the next 2 weeks and will be officially closed on Oct 31.

We hope to continue spending time with you all, and other fans in the future through our Discord Server, which we plan to keep opened.

On behalf of the entire Council for Accord's Library, we sincerely thank you for your support and friendship over the years. We hope that you will continue to use the discord, though we understand if this is where we part ways.

From the very bottom of our hearts, we will be forever grateful to everyone who's volunteered their time to help build Accord's Library into what it was. Thank you to all of our Transcribers, Translators, and most of all, all of you for sticking with us.

Take care of yourselves out there. Glory to Mankind.

If anyone is skilled with backing up sites, any assistance would be appreciated. Even if it's just to point at the right tool for the job (been almost a decade since I've backed up part of a site).

Shoutout to !helloharu@lemmy.world making the original post.
