If they didn't give out tax credits then they would receive that amount in taxes. From the government's point of view tax credits are a reduction in revenue.

I don't think 10% fewer tax credits would have made the difference of the factory being built or not. VW has plenty of money to pay taxes.

Maybe instead of giving away tax credits, they should use those taxes to improve Canada Post...

Community mailboxes are almost always a block away or less. Everywhere I've lived in the last 10 years I've just had to cross the street to check the mail. There's no 15 minute walk...

If you're used to having your mail right at your door, then having to go check it is a little extra hassle, but really not terrible. I check mine like once or twice a week.

Maybe Canada Post could implement something like USPS has: They'll send you an email summary of pictures of the mail arriving each day.

I'm pretty sure Hindenburg would have been able to land somewhere instead of crashing out of the air if it used Helium. The surface catching fire wouldn't spread nearly as quickly as the cells exploding with hydrogen gas. I'm not sure what material the cells were made out of, but I doubt it burns like flash paper.

Yeah, I wouldn't even make rent if I was making $500 a week

This was quite a while ago now, but I don't think my shell escaped the tab complete properly, I remember it just printing a literal newline and evaluating it as a second command. I think there was other unicode in there too, otherwise I would have just typed it out. I had to do something with null terminated output and piping it in to mv, but I can't remember what exactly.

I once accidentally created a file with a newline character in it... it was pretty tricky to fix from command line.

35th First Annual Ig Nobel Prize

What? You can't have 35 "First" annual events

All the terrible touch features they're adding to cars these days makes me think a brand new car today would go obsolete before a 10 year old used car with 100k miles. New cars are unrepairable because of how complicated they are.

Even the $3000 Samsung TVs have ads if you connect them to the Internet. Noone is safe

Usually the opposite is true when gutters are this clogged. They turn into a swamp.

I think DUIs are quite high there, but I can't really find any clear stats about it. From what I remember it's kind of a problem across all of the prairies.
