Plasma 6 Bugs

If you encounter a bug, proceed to https://bugs.kde.org/, check whether it has been reported.

If it hasn't, report it yourself.

PLEASE THINK CAREFULLY BEFORE POSTING HERE.

Developers do not look for reports on social media, so they will not see it and all it does is clutter up the feed.

Invariably, when I try to install themes, or anything from Plasma's menu's I get the following error, If I'm lucky, I get get a few pages in, other times it's right off the bat like this time. Is this due to an overwhelming of the servers or something else?

Developer Kai Uwe talks about a lot of "under-the-hood" stuff (so don't expect many pretty pictures) he's been working on in the last weeks.

Hello fellow kde users, I have a nuisance in dolphin that I do not understand and I’m trying to get rid of, maybe somebody can help

When I open dolphin (my home dir opens first) and click on a directory, e.g. /home/user/Desktop, dolphin freezes for a few seconds (like 10 or so). In this moment, I hear my NAS disks spinning up and the freezing ends when the NAS (samba) is reachable. But I did not access any smb share itself. I clicked on e.g. /home/user/Desktop. My smb shares are mounted via fstab to /home/user/Shares/mountpoint, which I am not actually accessing. Also, this does not happen when I just open dolphin and it shows /home/user/, the short freezing just starts when I click on any directory. This of course never happens when my NAS disks have already spun up and are runnning fine, or I suspect it just is not noticeable then, because it’s not waiting for I/O.

What I tried so far: removing all the kio smb:// shares in dolphin’s left side bar, removing all “places” in left side bar that are mountpoints or “near mountpoints”

Could this maybe have something to do with a trash bin that get’s refreshed? In dolphin’s trash settings I see two smb mountpoints /home/user/Shares/mountpoint having a trash bin.

I’m happy to provide logs and config files, if this helps in any way, just let me know which

Regards

I do quite like the look and use of Falkon and would gladly ditch Firefox for it.

But page load times seem pretty bad.

When I use the scrollbar to move a side up and down, it seems rather sluggish or even lagging.

And the Lemmy website interface does not seem to work at all in Falkon. It keeps loading for a very long time or forever, and once it loads the new content from a new page, it still displays the content from the previous page at the top. Falkon also makes these weird orange borders around the main area of any Lemmy page when I click anywhere inside it.

It feels like a broken mess, and since I don't think anyone would recommend a browser like that, I feel that there has to be something broken on my end.

I'm running Fedora 38 with KDE on my computer. If Falkon runs well on any computer, this one should be one of them. Any idea what the issue might be?

Plasma developer David Edmundson demonstrates how a desktop using Wayland, Qt6 and KWin can recover from a catastrophic crash as if nothing had happened.

I'm trying to get the scaling right on my 4k monitors, but icons look wonky, and the whole thing doesn't look right. I used to just throw export PLASMA_USE_QT_SCALING=1 in /etc/environment or ~/profile, log out and log back in, and I'm good, but now this doesn't do anything. I can't be on wayland 100% since not everything works still. Any idea why this is?

Do plasmoids need QT 6 porting?

It is a very simple program that allows you to have a quick overview of the contents of some files.

The program requires some python libraries and I have made a list of those needed for some distributions. they are generally always the same, just the names change a little.

I thought it would be great to spread awareness about this issue, hence I'm sharing it with you here.

In X11 there is a nice feature called "Turn off touchpad while mouse is plugged in" - it's a lifesaver when you have a laptop with big touchpad; me and lots of people with this issue accidentally hit it all the time while typing.

Plasma X11 touchpad settings

However in Wayland this setting is missing. After some digging people found out that this is not an issue with the libinput driver itself (used for touchpads on Wayland), as it is supporting this feature for a while now; rather it's an issue with the settings app itself, simply not implementing this feature while using Wayland.

Hope this will get attention from the community, as the recognition from the dev's side is minimal.

Hello, how do i debug the portal?, in my system it has a problem, every time i try to select a directory using it(like selecting the directory on ktorrent, or selecting the rom directory on Rosalie's Mupen Gui, both flatpak) i start eating ram infinitely and don't show up, i need to kill it from the task manager, but i didn't find anyone complaining about it, so i think is a problem with my setup

  • Operating System: Fedora Linux 38
  • KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.7
  • KDE Frameworks Version: 5.109.0
  • Qt Version: 5.15.10
  • Kernel Version: 6.4.14-200.fc38.x86_64 (64-bit)
  • Graphics Platform: Wayland
  • Processors: 8 × AMD Ryzen 7 5700U with Radeon Graphics
  • Memory: 6,6 GiB of RAM
  • Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon Graphics
  • Manufacturer: LENOVO
  • Product Name: 82MF
  • System Version: IdeaPad 3 15ALC6

EDIT: removing ´export QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=xdgdesktopportal´ from my .bashrc and rebooting fixed the problem

Hi all.

Happy KDE Plasma user for a long time and I generally love the desktop experience. But I do have one small issue.

At work, I have 2x 4K displays. connected through a Dock. But in Plasma it's only able to give me around 1080p resolution on both of them. In contrast, the display manager SDDM and TTY displays 4k on each fine.

So am I missing a trick to get the max resolution in Plasma? My install is Arch Linux, kernel 6.4.12, Plasma 5.27, Wayland session.

I did install the displaylink AUR package, as I thought it might be the dock limiting the video output, but it isn't as TTY and SDDM seems to display it correctly.

Happy to hear any thoughts and any ideas. :)

EDIT: The screens turn on and work fine with 4K resolutions in a Plasma X11 session.

I have two routers in my network, one master router and another supplementary one that extends the main one using a LAN cable.

My desktop and laptop are always connected to the main router, but my phone sometimes connects to the other, due to me moving about the house. I keep having to manually connect back to the main router when I need to use KDE connect. I don't want to 'Forget' the second router as it is the only one that covers certain parts of my house, such as the kitchen.

Is there a way around this? I had earlier connected the second router to the main one without a cable (wireless extender) and KDE Connect worked well in that config. I'm sure I'll need to provide some more info about my router setups, but I'm not sure what is needed, I can give more context in response to queries.

Apologies for the downtime of lemmy.kde.social. I made a minor update to our lemmy instance on Friday and this was a bad idea as this broke the server. I roll-backed our server from the last backup but ended up with the same issue. I unfortunately didn't had the time to investigate the issues during the weekend.

I finally got time to fix the issue and it turned out to be caused by a missing update of the upstream docker-compose file that I missed to apply on the server which caused an internal DNS issue between the frontend and backend.

Lesson learned, I won't do any update on a Friday anymore.

So ever since an update around a month ago KDE has been running at around 1-2 fps under wayland. I don't really have a valid explaination I've checked modeset and that comes back as exepcted.
