So far I've tried Metrolist, Outertune and Kreate, and none of them can.

I assume this is a limitation somehow, but asking here just in case there is an app that can.

TIA

Edit: I've looked at this open source music streaming list and tried SimpMusic. And hey presto it can do what I wanted to do.

The issue for me with Metrolist and Outertune is that it can only do local playlist that can be synced to my YT Music account. It could mean that say if I save my "MUsiiic" playlist from YTM as a local playlist, then enable sync to YTM, it would create double playlist.

I assume SimpMusic does the same somehow but it looks like I "turn on" save to local and sync it back to YTM. I checked and it didn't make duplicate playlist.

We haven't had a must-have app thread in quite a while, and since mobile ecosystem moves so fast, thought it might be a good idea to see what people are using these days and consider their must have apps.

Hey Android lovers, I just released Flogo, a flowchart-based visual programming app that lets you build, simulate, and execute real algorithms — all from your phone or tablet.

✔️ Design logic with drag & drop blocks ✔️ Simulate in real time (with variable console and interactive flow navigation) ✔️ Supports math, complex numbers, matrices, loops, conditionals ✔️ Includes plot(), input blocks, and over 100 functions ✔️ Free, no ads, no tracking

Great for students, teachers, hobbyists, or anyone who loves logic and clean design.

Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.flogo.myapp

Let me know what you think — feedback is really appreciated!

A memory game made for kids, free and open source with no tracking!

Pending Google review, so for now only the GitHub link where you can download it from the releases (or better yet, use Obtainium).

Currently features two theme packs: sea creatures and dinosaurs.

It's the first game I ever made, so let me know what you think!

Edit: It's now live on Google Play!

I'm looking for a decently featured text editor for Android.

I'm used to Notepad++ on Windows

I don't code with it, but I do like features like changing Proper Case in selected text, column select copy and paste, and so forth.

It recently got an update. I personally use it along with Warp on Linux using its flatpak. Its compatible with any client that uses magic-wormhole-rs

Hey everyone 👋

I'm someone who often lends small amounts of money to friends or family – sometimes 5$ here, 10$ there – and I always forget to keep track of it. Then weeks later, I’d be wondering, “Did I ever get that money back?” 😅

So I decided to solve this problem the best way I know – by building a simple Android app to help track my loans and borrowings, with reminders so I don't forget again.

🔗 Play Store: Loan Log

What it does:

  • Add Loans or Borrowings Easily – Just enter amount, name, and date.
  • Get Reminded – Set reminders for due dates so you never forget.
  • See Totals at a Glance – Know exactly how much you're owed or owe.
  • Mark as Paid – Keep things tidy and transparent.

I built this for myself, but I figured others might be in the same boat – lending or borrowing money and struggling to remember the details later. It’s completely free, no ads, and designed to be super simple. Everything is stored locally.

Would love to hear what you think or if you have any ideas to improve it. If you find it useful, feel free to share or leave a review – it would mean a lot!

I made it with kotlin multiplatform. So the iOS app is also there but i don't think paying 100 USD per year for a hobby project like this is worth it. May be if enough people are interested, i will think about releasing it in the app store.

Thanks for reading 🙏

I've been using Spark email for my casual email accounts and Nine (9folders) for my work related email, including a personal work facing/professional email and an email provided by my employer.

I'm looking to consolidate to just use one app and why not FOSS. But if you somehow think there's a better non FOSS I don't mind.

What I liked about Spark that I don't think is true anymore, is that it used to try and be a replacement of Inbox when Google decided to kill it. So I'd say that I like how Inbox 99.99% of the time categorized incoming emails automatically for me into separate inboxes or folders I suppose.

Admittedly it's better for me to cull the newsletters and promos I got but I'll Get There Eventually ™️

For what I like of Nine though, I honestly not sure anymore. I guess it was for Exchange as that's what I was given by the client for a project before, and what my employer used to use. Otherwise it's just momentum because I paid for it years ago.

Edit 2025-04-13: I'm going to try K-9 Mail. It just looks better than FairEmail, I'm sorry lol

Edit 2025-05-16: I am using Thunderbird for my work emails and surprise, FairEmail for my personal and collected junk emails.

Thunderbird is nice because I set up all my work emails on the desktop first and can easily share the setup on mobile just by mere QR. Amazing!

FairEmail for now I'm using with 1 collected junk email. Despite the less pretty look, and yeah the settings really need a bit of going over for more "normie" feel / experience — I like how it reformats the email to be as boring as it can for newsletters and marketing. Great!

Hi,

Wondering if anyone has recommendations for an opensource Pinyin keyboard for Android.

Currently using FlorisBoard but it doesn't have Pinyin input only zhengma input, which seems very difficult to learn.

Tried to use one called TRIME from F-Droid but it just constantly crashes.

Hey all, I've been looking for an app to replace Flatastic as it's a convenient way to track shared expenses, shopping lists, chores and notes. However, it has ads and basic features locked behind a SaaS model. Ideally such a replacement would be free and open source, but as long as it works and doesn't sell my data, I'd buy something for a few euros. Suggestions are appreciated!

cross-posted from: https://ani.social/post/11113258

I hate the way the default Messages app takes up half my phone screen with its fricking name. I know what I'm using for crying out loud.

It's quite possibly Samsung's fault.

I think I'm a pretty generic user and don't need anything too fancy.

I wanted to play SuperTux the platforming game, but it doesn't seem to be on the play store anymore. I had downloaded it before, but it's also not in my previously downloaded apps. I can't find an apk on their github and there's only a link to the play store on their page. Does anyone know where can I find an official apk?

There are lots of apps that can export messages to HTML and other formats, but after doing some searching I didn’t find any for markdown. I know SMS are mostly text but markdown is a plain text file format which support text formats like bullets, headings, and media (usually by referencing image, video, or audio files in the same folder or in a sub-folder). That would be nice for reading and searching through in apps like Obsidian.

The BLE Manager app for Android simplifies managing your device’s characteristics. No additional libraries are required to use the app with your device. Annotate each characteristic with a descriptor specifying the data type, graphical component, and optional properties like minimum and maximum values. That’s all! Once connected, the app automatically displays the described characteristics, enabling you to read and modify their values. All components fully support notifications and indications from your device for seamless interaction.

As someone who likes to tinker with microcontrollers, this looks exactly like something I was looking for a while ago. I ended up using phyphox which offers support for custom BLE devices with custom “experiments”. I will consider using this app for future projects.

Any simple (preferably open source) app to convert a few images into a looping GIF?

I've been looking for an app that will let me write down a bunch of short ideas/phrases and move them around easily. Something like scribbling on postits and sorting into piles, ordering and rearranging them.

So far I've found lots of task list / to do type apps that I can make lists and move things about in one axis. Or mind map type apps for building specific webs. But I've not come across something quick and easy to freeform engage with my brainstorming. Any suggestions?

I used to use an app Offline Reader for Reddit and wanted a similar thing for lemmy. It lets you load a bunch of selected communities while you have a connection so you can browse them later when you're offline.

I made it for myself, so there hasn't been significant testing. If you do run in to problems with it, let me know.

Hello, does anyone know of a tasks app that will keep sending reminders every x minutes until you check off a task? I have to take a pill at a specific time every day but I am absolutely terrible with reminders and I get constantly distracted. Often I see the notif/alarm but just ignore it or immediately forget about it. I wish there was a way to keep getting alarms until I actually check off that I took the pill.

Anyone who's installed custom roms on their older Android phones has probably heard of pie navigation. But this is a little post to share my love for it to those people who have never heard about it.

It's something I know from the old Gravitybox xposed module, where you slide from the side or bottom of the screen, and a small half-circle pops up with different pie pieces for the normal Android navigation bar buttons. This saves screen space, and needs less finger movement than all other gesture-based navigation I've tried. For me, it's the most comfortable navigation solution. I also think it looks quite pretty (though you can set the colors and icons and size to your own preference).

It's possible to add pie charts for apps and other stuff, but I've always just used the three for Back, Recent apps and Home. (In the past, there was a fourth little button for "Menu", but that's long since been deprecated.) When I hold the Recent apps button for a bit longer, I go back to my most recent previous app, for some quick multi-tasking.

After Gravitybox no longer really worked, there was an app called LMT, which provided much the same functions. These days, though, LMT also hasn't really seen any meaningful updates for a long time, and the best solution for Pie navigation seems to be this app on the Play store (unfortunately not open-source).

Disabling Android's built-in navigation solutions is needed for it to really work, though, as it replaces the built-in navigation default of just navigating Back. When rooted, your best bet is to just set the normal navigation bar and then using the NavTweaks Magisk module. There's a number of other workarounds I've had to use over the years, but I've always managed to replace the normal navigation style with my beloved pie navigation.

Have you ever used pie navigation and do you miss it? If not, what made you switch to the alternatives?

I really like Feeder, but it doesn't work with FreshRSS. I have been looking for a minimal replacement to view my FreshRSS instance and have had trouble with many of the options having slow sync or UI issues. Capy is looking pretty good! It syncs with FreshRSS extremely quickly. It also has a paned UI for tablets! The app itself is only a few mb in size

the native Android stopwatch widget is 3x2, and even resizing it on a third party launcher, it takes up way more space than it should.

the best I can seem to find out there is 2x2. I figure a 2x1 or even a 1x1 should be easily feasible. I don't give a damn what the rest of the app does (other than showing me ads, of course, or charging me a monthly fee)
