How was your week? Good? Bad? Indifferent?

I'll try and make this a weekly feature.

A teacher molesting a student. Standard. What about yours?

Not really sure what the word is of what I'm looking for but...

I'm after chest freezer. It doesn't need to be working as I only need the shell.

I was thinking that I may be able to go to a recycling site and ask the staff there or something like that? I'm not sure if this is really a thing but I've definitely heard of people finding things that people have thrown away etc.

Do I just need to drive around my city looking for fly tipping/skips?

I refuse to buy cheap bread or jam. For me it's hovis thick sliced wholemeal and Mackies jam only.

Hi, does anyone own a non smart tv which is 4k and around 48"? I'm currently own a Samsung TV but to use any of the apple TV or game consoles you have to go through their painfully unresponsive smart menus and its driving me up the wall. ive looked online but it's hard to avoid smart TVs, they seem to be everywhere and a lot of options I came across are US only. the budget is upto £400, thanks in advance

If a federated community like this already exists, please point me to it. I'd rather not divide the effort any more than necessary.

I think it is clear to anyone in the UK. The disabled community is now under attack.

This community is an attempt to help pull people together and consider ideas for support and to enhance our voice.

I like many others in our community over the last 14 years. Have enough mental health issues. That I'd be grateful for other mod volunteers who will share the time managing the group. In the hope, we can keep the workload of off to few people.

Mine is that schools should teach more non academic subjects like car mechanics. Things like history aren't relevant to a lot of students, so broaden the curriculum by teaching them things they'll engage with.

The news is all doom filled, so what's something that's made you happy recently?

Mine is finding Lemmy and all you lovely people (obviously). Also I had a workman round and he was a bloody lovely man.

Still incredibly new to all this, so sorry if this a daft question/ wrong place to put it.

But I came across this prefix you can apply to eg - Lemmy.World: https://old.lemmy.world/. It applies an “Old Reddit” theme to Lemmy. I tried it on a couple of communities, and it seems to work.

Except for Feddit.uk.

Anyone know what’s up with that? Who doesn’t old.feddit.uk work?

(Again - sorry if this is a silly question).

As it feels increasingly important to keep up to date on the news be it globally or back home, I thought I would throw out this question as I am quite ignorant when it comes to staying up to date.

The last time I read a paper was The Private Eye in early Jan and before that, I must say I never really tried to find a way to consume the news. So let me hear your preferred method.

Went into Preston today and the options were pretty poor and limited. My go to is pretty much Next, M&S and H&M but the range of anything decent was lacking.

I know there's online options but it's nice to physically try the clothes on before buying.

My next door neighbour (NDN) just told me about about the new neighbour (renter), who freely told her that she was evicted from her last place for having 19 cats, who she then abandoned. Fortunately, NDN is on the Facebook and was able to follow the local drama and find out they had all been rescued.

New neighbour told NDN she is going to sneak two cats into her new place (she's not allowed to under her rental agreement). NDN begged her not to and said if she must, to get them neutered, but it seems this woman just likes having her cats have kittens. I'm pretty sure she has the cats now as I saw pet supplies being delivered.

I want to do something to help now and prevent the same thing happening to more cats. I don't really care if she's breaking her rental agreement by having two cared for cats, but I absolutely do care about preventing neglect.

I know the RSPCA probably won't do anything and I'm not keen on getting someone evicted either. Any ideas?

My wife has something akin to a for corn. Went to the gp, they froze it and it came back. Our health insurance doesn't cover it. When looking online we find more beauty clinics, or weird specialist who don't inspire confidence. We probably overlooked something. Is there a different term? We're in the south London area.

I'm always looking for ways to reduce my plastic waste, and manufacturer's always seem to be trying to find ways to trick me.

I normally get the Lidl dishwasher tablets as they are the only brand that appears to come plastic free, cardboard box, and tablets wrapped in a dissolvable cellulose film. However sometimes I can't get there as its not always convenient.

Latest was CoOp that sold a cardboard box of tablets, but then each tablet was bloody wrapped in plastic, which is probably worse than just a plastic bag of the bastards.

Does anyone else know of brands that are safe to buy because they won't try to trick you with hidden plastics?

We don't really have an official Christmas works do so we miss out on the fallout of such events!

We were on a trip in Scotland and walking through a somewhat shady neighbourhood. These 2 kids were walking towards us and randomly passed a football to me, expecting me to pass it back.

Is this a usual occurrence? I have never had this happen in my country but I have seen it done for videos. I'm asking about the UK specifically because I feel like you guys have an interesting street football culture. Maybe I'm wrong and this is a normal thing in lots of countries.

This has just happened to me for at least the 3rd time in one year. I cancelled the things I planned for today only to be at home for the delivery; I was sat at home all day and heard nothing. Then, around 2PM I found a red slip saying I should contact Royal Mail for a redelivery (I was at work yesterday when they first ~~tried~~ left a red slip). Obviously my only other day off is tomorrow (Wednesday), and the earliest they allow me to schedule it for is Thursday, so the earliest I can TRY to receive it is an entire week from now. Alternatively, I could have it redelivered to the post office near me, which closes before I could get back from work (EDIT: it ALSO opens after I have to leave for work, therefore completely useless for picking up stuff that arrives on my working day). This is super infuriating now.

Once I even found 2 red slips with different dates in my post box, even though it was empty the night before.

What's going on when this happens?

UPDATE:

So this morning, as a night owl, I decided to make a sacrifice and took an early train to the delivery office (which is open between 8AM and 10AM, but I get it, otherwise the parcels are en route during the day). I asked the guy at the window about it, being fully aware that he might or might not be part of the actual delivery process; not blaming, not interrogating, just simply asking if he knows what the heck is going on.

Yupp, he confirmed what everyone has been commenting about, lol. He didn't have anything other in mind, apart from the afternoon delivery guy cutting corners. I can still imagine it's because they are loaded with work (it happens to be the case at my job) and it's literally impossible to make everyone happy, but management refuses to pay more people. Or he's just lazy. I don't know, but the bottom line is, it wasn't because of some technical nuance, bureaucracy, barometric pressure change in the stratosphere or God knows what. Most likely, he had the parcel but decided to bring the red slip only.

My trust in humanity is in the negatives.

I am a cisgender man with dual citizenship between the USA and the UK. My husband is a transgender man who does not have UK citizenship.

As part of our threat modeling, we are developing a shortlist of nations where we would migrate if things get rough. The UK, while being on a worrisome trend line with regards ro trans rights, made the list because it would be relatively simple for us to move and work there with my citizenship already sorted.

Could any UK trans people help us to understand the GRC? My husband has fully transitioned with respect to his US documentation. When we married, he was also a man. Since all his documents match, could he get by without a GRC, or would he be forced through the humiliation of immigrating as his birth-sex and then acquiring a GRC once we moved? Would a GRC be necessary to receive basic healthcare and/or hormones?

I'm thinking of buying a new laptop from a business in Spain (Slimbook fwiw), but it's not clear to me from what I've read online whether or what kind of additional charges I'd have to pay. Has anyone else been through the process already?
