My personal favorite is Strawberry Music Player. Especially if it's compiled using QT5 (for KDE 5).

When an application is maximized, the panel de-floats, but the sides remain empty. I understand that this is likely hard to implement differently, but mac also does this, and I wanted to know if anyone likes their floating panels to be so holey?

Personally, I'd like to get my holes filled. sadly it's not possible for many linux users

This Father's Day update has several features and critical bugfixes. It is highly recommended to update to this release if using Polonium v0.4.0. If you are experiencing bugs with Bismuth in 5.27 but have not tried out Polonium, now would be a great time as well!

I'm trying to run a qemu VM (kde host, kde guest), whenever I click alt-tab with the VM in full screen, I want the alt-tab to affect the VM and not the host at all.

Anyone know how you'd go about this?

[Edit]: Found it, I needed the Grab on Hover option in Qemu

Hi all, I have recently installed Fedora KDE and I am really liking it, but there is something that is happening that I was hoping someone could help me with.

When I go fullscreen on a video the taskbar is still active in the background. The taskbar is hidden, as it should be, and the video is shown on the entire screen, but if I go to the bottom of the creen with my mouse and click it will click on the taskbar (that is hiding behind the fullscreen) instead of on the video itself. This is true for different video players online, including YouTube, where the video player navigation overlay and the taskbar are in the same location, and thus I cannot really use the video player navigation while in fullscreen mode. This also happens if I just F11 and fullscreen Firefox - so it is not limited to only video players.

If I open a video I have locally in Dragon Player and go fullscreen then the video does not actually appear in fullscreen, instead I can see a bar in the taskbar area stuck on the frame that appeared when going fullscreen, and the rest of the screen is filled with the video actually playing.

Has anyone encountered this before?

EDIT: I just tried VLC and that actually works properly! But this doesnt actually help me understand what else is going on with the other things :S

On the road to Plasma 6 (pointieststick.com)

At this point you’ve heard a lot about Plasma 6, and each of my weekly “This week in KDE” brings news of a few new features, UI changes, or bugfixes that are only in Plasma 6. But how do we get there, and how long will it take?

On KDE Plasma 5.27 (X11), how do I set the screen split position per virtual desktop? When I do this,

  1. Switch to the 1^st^ virtual desktop
  2. Drag two windows to the left and the right edges of the display, respectively
  3. Switch to the 2^nd^ virtual desktop
  4. Drag two windows to the left and the right edges of the display, respectively
  5. Adjust the split position from 1:1 to, say, 3:1
  6. Switch to the 1^st^ virtual desktop

The split position on the 1^st^ virtual desktop is also affected. How do I make it so that different virtual desktops have different split positions?

I'm really wanting to run the plasma 6 beta to be able to help find and fix bugs. How would also like the option to be able to switch back to 5.27 if i run into a larger issue. I ideally I would be able to switch back just from sddm. Does anyone have experience doing this? or guidance as to where I could start looking.

I use arch btw :)

This is less than ideal.

This guide will illustrate how to install KDE Plasma on Debian 12 Bookworm, Debian 11 Bullseye, or Debian 10 Buster. The KDE Plasma screenshots may vary depending on the Debian release used, as both the KDE Plasma version and the default desktop environments differ between Debian versions. Nonetheless, the core installation process remains similar across versions, allowing you to explore the rich, personalized features that KDE Plasma offers.

There’s some of interesting Plasma 6 news, but I’m saving it for another post in a day or two, so it doesn’t distract from all the great work that KDE contributors landed on other…

Okular has robust support for digitally signing documents using a cryptographic signature, and it’s going to become even better soon. But what about signing documents using handwritten signatures, for those who live in places where digital signing hasn’t caught on yet?

Hello! I was wondering, since KDE connect allows to syncronize the clipboard, where potentially there can be passwords or similar, is it secure?

For years it is possible to tilt widgets on the Plasma desktop. I think this was introduced in KDE4. I have never used it. I was wondering, does anyone?

I'm a KDE user since 3.1 so I finally decided I should donate, but PayPal has very questionable privacy terms. I know this community is not very large (yet), but does anyone know why PayPal was chosen?
