The data leak is of AADHAR database. Which is a proof of identity that is required by everyone to avail government services. It is even used for SIM registration and opening bank account.

Government has been recently trying to link Voter IDs to AADHAR. It is already linked to Tax Account called PAN.

It has been turned it to a surveillance tool and this leak can be huge if true.

That's just one specific issue. It doesn't mean that the whole plasma wayland session is a pain. Been using it for more than a year now.

The conflict was triggered when the state High Court gave a verdict in favour of the Meiti community for a long standing demand for special previliges.

The Wikipedia article about the violence has a good overview.

I was also getting panics on 2 of my systems on Linux 6.3.9 but hasn't happened on 6.4

Of course they need the software and that's why they contribute to make it better. That's how most of the FOSS development works anyway. People have an 'itch' to fix the issues or add a feature and they do it and the license makes sure that others benefit from that itch.

Apart from RHEL, RedHat contributes to hundreds of FOSS projects and hires a lot of FOSS devs. So their contribution in progressing the desktop linux is huge. You can see the contributions to the various project here: https://www.redhat.com/en/about/open-source-program-office/contributions

Believe it or not corporates play a big role in making Linux what it is and their enshittification is bad for Linux ecosystem.

Sad that RedHat went this way.

I never had a reddit account, just used RedReader for lurking. But I uninstalled RedReader even though it would continue to work.

While Linux phones seem a distant dream. I think these are the major features that are needed for it to be a suitable daily driver for developers:

  • Waydroid - Cause we gotta have android apps.
  • Proper 5G/4G/3G Support.
  • Availability of more devices that can run Linux.

I understand and X works fine for a lot od people but do remember the number of developers maintaining it have been dropping year on year. No harm in trying IMO. If you are on Plasma or Gnome, you get a simple switcher on the login screen.

Yup. I am myself running Plasma Wayland on 2 laptops (both Ryzen APUs) for over an year now. Seems like Nvidia is the biggest limiting factor.

That's an unusual issue, have you reported it on bugs.kde.org?

If not on Wayland, what's stopping you?
