Our goal is to be the one stop shop for leftism here at lemmy.world! We welcome anyone with beliefs ranging from SocDemocracy to Anarchism to post, discuss, and interact with our community. We are a democratic community, and as such, welcome metaposts that seek to amend the rules through consensus. Post articles, videos, questions, analysis and more. As long as it's leftist, it's welcome here!

Hello everyone! RockSlayer here with another mod update. Recently we had a metapost (found here!) seeking to amend the rules in light of a public disagreement between myself and another mod. Based on feedback from that metapost, we will be implementing a rule banning support for authoritarians. This is one more chance to provide feedback before we codify this rule as written:

Unconditional support of authoritarians will not be tolerated.

Just to be clear ideologically, we are not becoming an anarchist community or using an overly broad definition of authoritarianism. As an anarcho-syndicalist myself, balancing this rule to prevent the exclusion of statist ideologies is of the utmost importance to me; that is why the rule has the requirement of "unconditional support". If you feel like there is a better way to phrase this new rule, please give us your suggestions!

Have you been wanting to unionize at work? Are you concerned about union busting disrupting your organizing efforts? Well then this website will be invaluable to you. CWA is a bottom-up, worker led union. Ever since the PATCO strike made unions afraid of striking, CWA alone has basically kept the idea of striking alive in the US. As an effort to modernize their definition of communication, CWA has created this playbook to prepare you and your coworkers against the insidious and misleading language union busters use to destroy your campaign.

It wasn't until 2020 came around and we regained our voice before things changed in favor of organized labor. Even with companies violently affecting workers with layoffs, now's the time to organize. As the saying goes, the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second best time is now. As a tech worker myself, the knowledge that there wasn't a single union member laid off at Activision Blizzard should be sign enough that unions provide job security.

New Community Rules (lemmy.world)
submitted 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) by rockSlayer@lemmy.world to c/leftism@lemmy.world

Edit: After several days of allowing for people to discuss these rules, there has been no major feedback. In light of this, these rules are now considered the new rules of the community.

Hey all! rockSlayer here with a mod update. Recently, I reached out to the other mods and we came to a consensus to operate our community by our values and democratically select community rules. We also want to use some ideas intended to lead discussion. As long as there are no major objections, these are the things being considered. If there's anything you'd like to see, add it in the comments!

Rules regarding behavior:

  • Absolutely no fascism, right wing extremism, genocide denial, etc.
  • Good faith discussion about ideologies is encouraged, but no sectarianism
  • No brocialism/sexism
  • No ableism
  • No TERFs/ anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric
  • No racism
  • No trolling
  • No insults, dunking, or personal attacks
  • No posting of misinformation, disinformation, or fake news
  • Remember that there is no "right way" to implement leftist theory. Do not accuse historically classified socialist countries of "doing it wrong". This rule does not prevent academic criticism.
  • Try to avoid extremely sensitive topics unless approaching them with appropriate care for intersectionality. Use your best judgement, and be prepared to provide respectable sources when having these discussions. Wikipedia is not an acceptable source in these cases.
  • Mods have final say

Posting Expectations:

  • Comics/memes/shitposts/propaganda are only allowed on weekends
  • Try to avoid liberalism unless discussing electoral politics. Even then, try to focus on tactical agreement towards leftist goals
  • Only one meta post seeking consensus per person per day
  • Posts about a particular ideology are ok, but remember the rules above
  • Post titles must be meaningful and relevant, except on weekends

Ideas for discussion: (admittedly, this section is a lot more loosely structured, and will probably result in meta posts. That's ok)

  • Topic/ideology of the week. This could be done a few ways, like a megathread. It could also affect what ideological posts are allowed for the week. The next week's topic could be voted on in a mod-pinned meta post.
  • Theory Thursdays. On Thursday, post articles/questions/videos/infographics discussing leftist theory. This could be as simple or complex as you want. Alternatively, this could work in conjunction with the topic of the week
  • Create a discord/matrix server

There was an article out there about how the website fightchatcontrol was impactful against the Chat Control idiocy of Denmark. Maybe we need something similar for the wealth tax. It is the biggest lever, I think, that we can use to get more equality in our societies and take power from the anti-immigrant narrative. It would also weaken those in power as they would gradually lose their wealth and make it possible for more citizens to be informed --> less control.

I truly believe that a more educated public will naturally be left-leaning and progressive.

@chatcontrol@mastodon.social would you help with this?

Odysee, bitchute, peertube, and others are overrun with right wing media and there's nearly no left-wing stuff on them. Where are all the lefties?

My name is Soliman — a young man and student from Gaza, carrying a burden far heavier than my age. Between my studies and the hardships of life, I try to be the backbone of my family in the most difficult of times.

We once had a small farm — olive and citrus trees, and a greenhouse where we planted not just crops, but dreams. That farm was our only source of income, and more than that, it was a place full of memories, of hope, and of the laughter that once made life a little easier.

But in a single moment, everything was gone. A fire reduced our years of effort to ashes. We lost our source of living, our stability — and with it, a part of our souls.

Now, despite the pain, I’m trying to start over. I’m doing everything I can to keep my family standing, to find even the smallest light of hope that might restore our strength, dignity, and sense of humanity.

I share these words with honesty and hope, hoping they reach a kind heart — someone who can help, or even simply share my story with others who might be able to.

If you’re able to support us in any way, here is the link to our GoFundMe campaign: ❤️https://gofund.me/da782c66 Every share, every kind word, every small donation could be a lifeline for us.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for taking a moment to read my story.

Writing for the outlet, Andrew Lisa explained that Americans hold a combined $160.35 trillion in wealth. To the average person, that sounds like quite the payday, but someone in the top 1% probably wouldn’t see it that way. According to Lisa, “The bottom 50% of the country shares less than 3% of that enormous pie, while the most fortunate 10% gorge on nearly all of it.”

There are approximately 340.11 million people in the U.S. If they all shared that $160.35 trillion, each person would come away with $471,465. Not only is that more than the average person could even imagine, but it only compounds when you consider how it would add up for families. For example, a couple would hold a combined $942,930, and a family of four would have $1.89 million. Because, of course, in an ideal world, wealth would be distributed evenly regardless of age.

[3 different thumbnails given to you randomly. All have words in yellow text. One says "explaining ableist language" another has "intro to ableist language" and one says "what is ableist language?". They are all next to the disabled pride flag and on a digital art wooden background with a grey table in the bottom left corner]
