Question: if I buy figs commercially, will they contain dead wasps? Or, is this something that only happens naturally?

By the time the fig gets to you, the wasp would long have been digested/dissolved by the plant.

All I know is my dog got really, really fat after we bought the house with the fig tree

As far as I know it isn't actually something that happens with the figs we eat. I think it is a specific type of fig and a specific wasp that does this.

Also, the wasp in question is absolutely tiny.
