First of all, thanks for your community!

Second, I think due to the nature of your community, it takes people time to actually read the articles and have comments to post.

Probably why it's harder for your community to get comments than a meme community

Yeah, I'm never going to compete with the lolcats. It was surprising just how low the ratio of votes to comments were, though.
