"female" always sounds slimy to me. There's just something about the word
Yeah, like why you callin' them "females" bud? Wanna be reminded of "males" when you talk about 'em?
The accepted ways for heterosexual men to refer to the opposite sex are: Chicks, babes, birds, broads, dames, girls/gals, lassies/lasses, señora, maidens, and Sheilas*

Same problem as "females." You drop two letters and all you got is "men."
