Seems that YouTube has removed the mute button on mobile? I thought it was just the app but two browsers show the same.

It’s not a great pairing with their obnoxious stock music on instructional videos.

If you're on Android, I highly recommend patching the stock app with revanced.app

I think it’s been like that for awhile now.

I remember playing a YouTube video by accident and the sound went off super loud even though my phone was switched to silent, apparently it overrides it.

I could only stop or turn the volume on my phone down manually.

They seem to want to make their service so bad it’s unusable. I don’t know why because it’s not like it’s a paid feature?

(It better not be because that’s ridiculous.)

It’s not a paid feature I can assure you that. It’s only like that went you use the mobile site

If you use the desktop version of the website you’ll get the unmute button/volume slider there.
