Disclaimer: I'm no physical therapist. I do also enjoy sports without the proper warm up and stretching, which gives me the occasional injury (currently me left wrist).
I try to keep the injured part "alive" in movement, without burdening it. I feel this helps the recovery process. Sometimes it takes a few weeks, sometimes a few months to years (knees!).
You could take anti-inflamatory medication (ibuprofen), although I would really recommend against it if you can bear the pain. It will take away the pain, but lengthen the recovery process. Also, you will not feel when you are over exerting the injury and could make it worse.
