Hi, I hurt my left hamstring while running in the winter due to not warming up properly and likely not stretching the hamstring enough. It feels much better now, though, and I have tried running on occasion. However, running noticeably makes it feel sore, and if I were to keep running, I think I would injure it again, so I have assumed I should continue resting it. Is this true- is the best I can do now to take up another sport (biking has been fine), wait, and continue only when it does not feel sore after a trial run?

I haven't found another sport I enjoy as much as running, and I haven't seen a physical therapist for this yet because I really did not enjoy seeing one for a different issue in the past.

Disclaimer: I'm no physical therapist. I do also enjoy sports without the proper warm up and stretching, which gives me the occasional injury (currently me left wrist).

I try to keep the injured part "alive" in movement, without burdening it. I feel this helps the recovery process. Sometimes it takes a few weeks, sometimes a few months to years (knees!).

You could take anti-inflamatory medication (ibuprofen), although I would really recommend against it if you can bear the pain. It will take away the pain, but lengthen the recovery process. Also, you will not feel when you are over exerting the injury and could make it worse.

Good luck. Hope you get better soon!

Sorry to hear that. No specific tips for you, but I too have had a groin strain since January (not warming up, new shoes, running too hard)

I spent Feb lying to myself that it was a ache rather than a strain and it would go away. Come first weekend of March, half marathon race, 'realised' it's not a ache but a strain/ injury (shock Pikachu face), struggletowned past the finish line,

Since then I've committed to 3 weeks of no running, just yoga stretching and some squats stuff.

Hoping this self diagnosis will work (because I'm a cheap ass to see a PT)

better luck to you
