It's just like water; that's why power lines are so high up. It prefers flowing downhill. That's also why outlets have two sockets. One is for the device that needs power more (the bottom one). The top one goes out first in a brown out.

Honestly though, thinking of circuits like water in pipes does get you quite a long way.
