As you grow you will keep appreciating the growing amounts of personal development

Eventually you think back to when you were worried about turning 25 and you'll think "why would I ever wanna be 25 again? I had so much less knowledge and experience back then"

[–] Monstrosity@lemm.ee 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Then you shake yourself back into reality & remember, "...oh yeah, because I was hot & my dick worked."

[–] ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Back then: hot, working penis, can't get laid
Now: older, not working penis, can't get up

~ 35 is definitely golden era … at least for men. Old enough to be in control of your body and emotions, but still young enough to have spontaneous energy.

Nah son. I talked over this with my dad, starting career and being independent is the best. Having kids and supporting a family really puts a damper on all that freedom and possible recklessness. Being at school was the worst fucking time ever too, bullies at home and dad being shitty at home.

[–] SkyeStarfall@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

And nobody forces you to have kids, you know? If anything that's just saying to make sure to make choices that you will be happy with in your life

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yes, I chose to have kids and change nappies, doesn't make it any less disgusting when the shit starts going everywhere, and a billion other things I knowingly signed up for sucking.

"This is going to suck, and be worth it after"
Later : "this sucks"
You : "LOL NO ONE FORCED YOU AMIRITE?!"

We're in a different political climate than when you were young. Today's youth can't afford to have children, and even if they could, they know bringing a child into a world of impending climate collapse is a cruelty.

They're jealous of your privilege and resentful that you still find the time to complain in front of them even with your good luck. They wish they could care about problems as simple as yours. But alas, your struggles are no longer relatable. They're just reminders of how good you have it compared to them.

the fuck are you on about? I'm talking about the generation before me lying about how the baby years of the child is the best, the same way they lied about being in school being the best. 35 is down there with school years.

I'm talking about how in contrast to what the generation before told me, starting a career turned out great for me. I'm not talking about any privilage. If it seems privilaged, it's telling them that when they start their own career, things start to look up. maybe they're still just "working jobs" instead of "starting their career.

[–] Genius@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Careers are seen as old fashioned these days. Employers would rather have AI workers and a gig economy. Workers still want to have careers, but they're in short supply. You were lucky you got one.

The youth these days have also been betrayed enough times that they'd never fall for that old trick. They don't trust old people at all.

The Republican Party

[–] 418_im_a_teapot@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I have a family that lives an adventurous life with me. They don’t hold me back. Kids are so malleable. They don’t hold you back unless that’s the life you create (obvious exceptions for special needs kids may apply).

And “recklessness” is part of my youth I was happy to leave behind.

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Older children, sure, but there's a lot more intense childcare that takes up a lot of time with the baby. I am kinda in some of the exception circumstance, but not with the kid.

On top of that, if you're the sole breadwinner, you can't just drop your job to go do some stupid shit, like I did earlier.

[–] Oaksey@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Generally more money to enjoy life too

[–] JustAnotherRando@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'd say a bit earlier than that personally (wife and I agree that 28 is around that sweet spot). Old enough to have independence and chill out, but young enough that you don't randomly end up with a headache all damn day because you slept slightly wrong.

I think I just took longer to mature. At 28 I was still working on my temper and impulse control.

"Oh, right, I could get hard without supplements and my bowel movements were so normal I took them for granted"

[–] TexasDrunk@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

For me it's the knees. I can still shit and bang and drink and do all the same fun drugs I did at 25. But I miss my cartilage.

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Must be fucking up my 30s. I don't do any of those things. :(

[–] TexasDrunk@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

If you're not shitting then you need to see a doctor, friend.

Otherwise, if it's not your jam there's nothing wrong with sitting it out. In fact I don't recommend drinking as heavily as I have or take as many fun drugs as I used to (I can still do them but I choose to heavily limit myself) because there are long term consequences.

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Saw a Dr.

Cost 200 bucks and he said to take a day off and shit.

JK. I'm pooping fine, thanks for the concern though!

Try to keep your bowl movements to a minimum so you don't spill your soup.
