I'm actually amazed by how the Pornhub and Xvideos players, after all this time, are still better than the Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, Instagram, and TikTok players, like it's not even comparable. The way people can just accept whatever slop any corporate will feed them is just insane to me...

maybe I'm missing out because I don't watch content on pornhub, but how good does a video player need to be? it's a video player, seems like a solved problem to me.

no ads or sponsor crap (sponsor only if sponsor is <5s and only at the start of vid)
buffering is efficient and quick
subtitles available in widescreen, small etc
can change volume and resolution
can be judged by community with a non-karma system
little to no algorithm or AI slop
can custom select videos (by date, popularity, tags, or whatever)
peer to peer, decentralised and FOSS
privacy friendly
can download, usable offline
none of that copyright bullshit

In short, a no-nonsense normal video player without a profit motive.

I think he was answering the question "how good does a video player need to be?", because many of those points don't apply to pornhub, which also goes more into the site behind it than the player proper

For what it's worth, PH is better than YT in most regards now, I feel.
