I've finisished the gardening for the day. The new edger works well and was less strain on my arms than the whipper snipper, as I hoped. It did take a while to do the front even though it's a small area because there are a lot of edges and things to work around. I ended up doing another run around the back yard too, which gave me more clippings to help weigh down the cardboard designed to smother the grass where the new beds will go. It's pretty bumpy out there which I'm hoping I'll be able to improve a bit in time. The grass at the front's a bit dodgy too - it had turf laid which is very healthy, but because it is on a slope the pieces moved apart a bit and there are ditches between them which need to be filled in. I think I'll do a topdress in Spring to try and get it a bit neater, and any extra soil can go on the nature strip which is a horrible mess of weeds, including a horrible flat spiky thing I have name the Rosette of Doom. There are also spiky gorse bushes around in a lot of the open land and naturestrips around so I want to try to make sure they don't get a foothold either.
