when i canceled things with my therapist and told them that the reason was that i didn't trust that their notes about me would remain private and would in fact be used to hurt me she was shocked and told me that was 'impossible'. I was quite dismayed to learn that there was no way for me to have them destroy those notes already taken the practice staff told me that they were required to keep them for insurance purposes and i can't afford any lawsuits.

And here we are and I'm not surprised but i am dismayed and i'm glad i didn't tell my therapist a lot of things.

Under hippa.you can request they change anything you deem inaccurate probably the best you can do.

Make sure to contact them again and rub it in their face

Mental that you can't request them to delete your data, you'd think there would be a way. For example, you could sign an agreement that you won't sue them for anything relating to your therapy and then they could destroy the records. Maybe someone needs to sue for the right to delete or something, you can't be the only person in this situation.

Sorry this is happening to you.
