So, here in a few days I’ll be going to niagara falls with my mom. Apparently my dad is in an uproar because we’ll be going across the rainbow bridge. Named in 1939 for the rainbows made from the waterfall. Bigots gonna bigot, even when it has nothing to do with anything.
Oh that’s the plan. I’ll be seeing him a few days later and am gonna say rainbow bridge so many goddamn times I’ll forget what it actually means. Once he brings it up I’ll be sure to tell him the actual reasoning for the name.
My dad started falling down the hole with Rush Limbaugh in the late 90s. Downward spiral into right wing shithole media ever since. Now he's old, single for decades, been hospitalized for over a month, and is indicating he's sad that I don't talk to him often anymore and that he's lonely.
It's a long game, but sometimes you have to distance yourself from someone behaving awfully before they can realize the error of their ways. It can literally take decades.
Yeah, mine got on the Rush pipeline back in the day too. My mom is still with him but apparently he has either gotten way worse since the election or she has finally just gotten tired of hearing it. Me and him have a similar relationship to you and yours with the whole ‘why don’t we speak more’, but won’t listen to me when I explain why.
Yeah, this is the running theme.
If someone won't listen to you, the only sane thing to do is stop talking to them.
