I mean... you can get banned from those communities or even your instances involved for "voting manipulation" practices, so even if we might hope that one or two such cases would not trigger such a result, it is best to not do it.
Plus some actual big old pieces of shit humans actually do it on purpose... thereby attempting to exert undue (and unfair!) influence on the Threadiverse.
I know they are just fake Internet points, but some people get really worked up about this stuff... so personally speaking I avoid doing so like the plague. If it helps, think of it like stealing IRL - once or twice in your life you might walk out of a store after forgetting to pay for something, and it's too far to go back and pay for it later, but generally speaking nowhere close to a good or even neutral matter, as separately from what you think about it there's also the thoughts of the recipient to consider as well.
So, I agree and appreciate what you're saying. I was being a little facetious as well, if it wasn't obvious.
My opinion on the matter is that I don't really think it's noteworthy, so long as one isn't doing it intentionally. I am definitely aware that I do a multi-vote sometimes when I am using my alternate account(s), but my intent is not malicious. I just don't remember exactly if I voted on it already or not, and my mind puts it into some kind of morally ambiguous area.
My feelings are the same. Votes are reactions, like 😍 or 🍆. It's a federated universe where account creation cannot be controlled. Trying to make votes out to be more than a fun social reaction is ridiculous.
And yet, in other threads you can see admins bloviating about the sanctity of votes and how "vote manipulation" is scummy, etc. See, eg: https://lemmy.ca/post/50545875
I figured, but also wanted to answer it seriously in case doing so would help people know the answer legitimately as well.:-)
