After decrying “political violence” their very next move is to wield political violence against people exercising their freedom of speech. This stupidity and evil is why violence will continue and escalate.

Something tells me that's part of the strategy. An escalation of violence would work as an excuse for more repression, opening the opportunity to expand on the list of "enemies", then add more violence to the mix, rinse and repeat.

It is a well documented step in the fascism playbook. Instigate or manufacture a crisis — one that looks like an attack — and use it as justification for the use of violence to seize total, irrevocable power.
