Books are not banned widely in the country, or (to my knowledge) in any state or municipality. All of these books may be legally sold, purchased, owned, read, given, traded, etc. anywhere in the US. These books are banned specifically from schools and libraries, and usually by a local school board or similar; meaning that the constitutional prohibition on Congress making any law abridging freedom of speech (and the similar provision in most state constitutions) doesn't apply.

Yep, the ban is just a school not electing to include the book in their library. Pretty much all of the books are available in the public library that you can walk to from the school, unless they are relatively obscure or new and haven't been purchased by the public library yet.
