More charitably we can say half the population trusts their tribal influencers to know what they are doing.
Before you go condemning them all, the tribal influencers telling people The Establishment Democrats know what they are doing or also misleading people. And people still do not seem to realize it.

This really feels like a polite way of trying to both sides that people who are bigoted assholes are exactly the same as people who dislike bigoted assholes.
I disagree, i don't think the person above is saying both sides are the same in terms of policy. But that both sides are being looked at as smart, impactful leaders that know how to play the game of politics.
Moderate liberals have elected people that they consider to be smart moderate liberals and they trust them to do the right thing. But a moderate liberal solution to actual fascists taking over the government is not an appropriate response. Just ask the social Democrats of the Weimar Republic.
