kinda beyond frustrating that there's more outrage over a comedian who got his start through an absurdly sexist and misogynistic show than there was over the win or lose episode that was already filmed and ready and changed the character into a cis character.

I think the difference there is that there's no evidence of government meddling and intervention. Whereas here, there is.

Well, I've never heard of Win or Lose so it's pretty challenging to get riled up over it.

Man, did you miss the point of The Man Show. It was satire, and the hosts were the joke.

[–] wildncrazyguy138@fedia.io 28 points 2 weeks ago

Also not where he got his start. Kimmel was on the Win Ben Steins Money game show before The Man Show and radio before that.

see, you say that, but I don't think you realize how stupid Americans are.

My stepfather did not think it was satire, or a joke. He loved that show and thought the jokes were hilarious. "woman be shopping" etc. I hated that man.

I know very well how stupid we are. Just look at The Colbert Report.

But because it wasn’t received as satire doesn’t make it not satire.

[–] Olhonestjim@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

That's kinda the whole point of satire. Fools arent supposed to get the joke, because they ARE the joke.

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Also, what little I know of Adam Carolla these days, I'm not sure it was satire to him.

[–] blitzen@lemmy.ca 14 points 2 weeks ago

Of the hosts, one grew as a person and the other did the opposite.

Did I miss this Kimmel ep? I know I've missed a few.

They're referring to Disney's decision to change a trans character to cis in the Pixar show Win or Lose. While it's pretty clear that Trump being elected played a part, as it happened in December, Trump wasn't even in office yet, so this was Disney being transphobic in anticipation of the incoming fascist overlords. Not really the same situation at all.

[–] ieGod@lemmy.zip 9 points 2 weeks ago

Never heard of that. Not surprised it didn't spark more outrage. Kimmel on the other hand is a household name.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

okay, so completely unrelated to the topic at hand? I feel better about being confused, then. Thanks!

Win or Lose is apparently the title of a different show. I've never heard of it either.

it's actually really good. Short sweet 8 episodes.

All about the same day but from the perspectives and lives of different people and the different challenges they face. Anxiety, confidence, responsibility, maturity... I am pissed that they altered one of the episodes regarding a trans kid and their fears of being true to their authentic self to instead a sort or stress of living up to expectations... but still it's worth the watch.

Especially if you have kids.
