Reread the definition of genocide because it isn't restricted to deaths. Forcibly sterilizing people and destruction of culture are also included in genocide. That being said, deaths have occurred in the camps through malnutrition, unsanitary conditions, withheld medical care, and violence (beatings).

https://web.archive.org/web/20250106020345/https://www.hrw.org/report/2021/04/19/break-their-lineage-break-their-roots/chinas-crimes-against-humanity-targeting

The facts are that China imprisoned more than a million people from a specific ethnic group in concentration camps without due process. Treatment in these camps included forced labor, family separation, and indoctrination. There are multiple reports of forced abortions, forced sterilization, forced birth control, rape, and torture.

As a result of family separation and forced birth control, the birth rate of Uyghur areas of China fell 60%.

Claiming the AP is selling Israeli genocide is a blatant lie.

AP caught again just last night spreading hasbara, misreporting the threats the IDF was broadcasting to the flotilla.

Watch the video AP posted of what the IDF was supposedly broadcasting to the flotilla, and then watch the videos recorded by the flotilla activists of what the IDF was actually broadcasting.

Again, re-read your link. They aren’t forcing cultural appropriation either. They deradicalized them, re-integrated them into Chinese society, and dismantled the camps.

It’s obvious you’re really concerned about the loss of a western destabilization force, and not the actual Uyghurs, because you have no objections to the intelligence agencies radicalizing them in the first place. But it’s oh so offensive to you that they were rehabilitated.

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They aren’t forcing cultural appropriation either

I said they are forcing cultural indoctrination.

They deradicalized them, re-integrated them into Chinese society, and dismantled the camps.

They were not offered due process, so there is no proof they were radicals in the first place. "Re-integration" is another word for indoctrination which is a violation of universally recognized essential human rights. Yes, they dismantled the camps but only because they moved the prisoners into the prison system. All this is said in the article you keep telling me to reread.

It’s obvious you’re really concerned about the loss of a western destabilization force, and not the actual Uyghurs, because you have no objections to the intelligence agencies radicalizing them in the first place

Citation needed.

Hahaha. You just keep digging, and it just becomes more & more obvious you’re astroturfing state propaganda.

Ah, that is what you think is a good source. This whole conversation makes sense. Global times is literally state run media.

"The Global Times is a daily Chinese tabloid under the auspices of the Chinese Communist Party's flagship newspaper, the People's Daily, commenting on international issues from a Chinese nationalistic perspective" https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Times

The west imprisons and kills journalists reporting intelligence snafus, and you want a prominent western source that documented one of the biggest intelligence snafus of the past decade?

No wonder you have no clue what the west is actually doing abroad.

Julian Assange, a journalist, was imprisoned for exposing that the US was killing journalists. At pro-Palestine protests across the country, police actively targeted press for arrests and assaults. The fucking president of the United States openly threatens journalists on camera.

What the fuck are you talking about, fed?

Zhang Zhen

Dong Yuyu

And more than a hundred others

https://cpj.org/reports/2008/06/12iii-2/

Julian assange hand nothing to do with revealing the US killing journalists. Yeah, the current US government suppresses free press, it that is not even a fraction of what China does. It is absolutely absurd to call them a reliable source

[–] surph_ninja@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

So now you’re trying to deny the facts of one of the most prominent retaliations against a journalist in the past decade. How do you think that’s gonna slide? Seems like a pretty stupid way to burn your astroturf account.

And the hundreds of journalists that the US suppressed or imprisoned or killed? Those are nothing?

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 0 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Okay, so provide information that proves my information is wrong. Or shut the fuck up

[–] surph_ninja@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Asking about the basic facts of one of the most prominent stories of the past decade is the epitome of sea-lioning.

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 0 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I genuinely have no idea what story you are talking about. Maybe it was the biggest story in whatever Chinese propaganda rag you mistake for legitimate journalism, but it doesn't ring a bell for me.

[–] surph_ninja@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

The Julian Assange story, which you don’t seem to know the basic facts about.

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Oh, you're still talking about that? Let's pretend that is an example equivalent to what China does even though it isn't. I provided links with more than a hundred names of reporters who have been imprisoned, killed, or disappeared by China. You should be able to do the same if you are telling the truth.

[–] surph_ninja@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The US has supplied the weapons to kill over 230 journalists in Gaza alone.

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

If that's the game we are playing, China supplies weapons to to Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, all of SE Asia, all but 3 countries in Africa, Mexico, Bolivia, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela, Russia, and North Korea. How many journalists deaths do you think that would be?

[–] surph_ninja@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

None, unless you have a source showing otherwise.

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You didn't source your shit, why should I?

[–] surph_ninja@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I’m not making wild claims. It’s widely known Assange was jailed for exposing the US killing journalists, and that the US has helped Israel kill over 200 journalists in the past two years.

You’re making a new claim.

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That's a blatant lie. I can find no references anywhere to Assange exposing the killing of US journalists. He released files proving warrantless surveillance of US citizens. Post a link proving what you say.

[–] surph_ninja@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No, sea lion. If you’re an actual human, you are perfectly capable of searching for Collateral Murder, one of the most significant releases in the history of journalism.

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Okay, so 2 journalists killed. That means you were lying.

https://collateralmurder.wikileaks.org/

[–] surph_ninja@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No, not at all. Julian Assange was imprisoned for releasing that proof of the US killing journalists.

You wanna go through the hindreds of other journalists that have been imprisoned/killed by the US? Let’s start with the 230+ journalists they helped kill in Gaza.

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Assange was jailed for obtaining and disclosing of classified documents stolen by Chelsea Manning. Saying anything else is a lie.

You keep defending China by deflecting onto the US. It's pretty obvious.

China jails and kills journalists domestically for long sentences explicitly for speaking against the government. The US does not do this, not even Trump.

Yes, the US has accidentally killed journalists through collateral damage in war zones. It's shitty and a problem, but it is blatant bad faith to equate this to China's direct persecution of journalists.

[–] surph_ninja@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

..and the documents Manning provided were proof of the US killing journalists. Assange broke no laws by accepting those documents, given he’s a journalist and not subject to US laws in the first place.

The US has been censoring and jailing journalists for years. Still do.

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Proof the US killed 2 journalists accidentally. You claimed the docs proved the US killed more than a hundred intentionally which was a lie.

In 2024 Assange plead guilty to a charge of conspiring to obtain and disclose classified U.S. national defence documents under the Espionage Act of 1917. He was sentenced to time served (62 months). Again, you lied.

But let's say I agree with your premise that Assange is an example of what you claim. That is one journalist. I provided names of more than a hundred arrested, tried, and jailed by China. Can you do the same for the US?

[–] surph_ninja@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago) (1 children)

Really can’t tell if this is a bad astroturfer, or a person with poor reading comprehension.

I said the docs proved killing journalists, and Assange was imprisoned for it. As someone who is not a US citizen, nor does he live there, he is not subject to the US espionage act. Though he is not the only journalist the US has tried to impose that act on.

The US has helped Israel kill over 200 journalists in the past two years alone. Would you like a list of all their names?

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

Really can’t tell if this is a bad astroturfer, or a person with poor reading comprehension.

Ad hominem

As someone who is not a US citizen, nor does he live there, he is not subject to the US espionage act.

He is subject to it if he lives in or enters a country with an extradition treaty with the US.

The US has helped Israel kill over 200 journalists in the past two years alone. Would you like a list of all their names?

You are moving the goalposts. This entire discussion has been about comparing the US to China. China arrests and kills their own journalists in their own country. That is the list I provided you. Provide the same for the US or admit you are wrong.
