The cereal, chips, and oreo cookie toppings will go stale extremely fast. A local donut shop tried cereal topped donuts ... the toppings go stale after an hour or two.

I don't know where you're getting this info from, but one of the most popular donut companies in the United States voodoo donuts very famously uses lots of cereal toppings.

No, my kids have tried donuts with cereal on top several times and it's always stale.
