No, he is the movement. If he disappeared, people wouldn't have to pretend to like him and would form different coalitions. Don't underestimate the impact of a charismatic leader.

If Hitler died after taking France, the war would've gone very differently. Maybe they skip the Balkan campaign and go straight to the USSR, or maybe they keep the peace with the USSR and the US doesn't have an eastern ally. Maybe the US attacks Japan first before dealing with Germany because the new German leader establishes some form of diplomacy with Roosevelt, meaning N. Korea doesn't get Soviet support.

Leaders are important, especially populists.

The problem is that even in this wonderful fantasy, Vance assumes the presidency for the remainder of the term. I agree that without Trump, there's no way the GOP wins the next election since they'll likely collapse to infighting over the power vacuum, but none of that matters if there are no more elections. and realistically, if Vance is put in power, that will be his first and highest priority.
