The 17-year-old suspect from Garwood — a son of a retired police officer and the nephew of the Westfield police chief — was charged Wednesday with the first-degree murders of Maria Niotis and Isabella Salas.

Relatives of Niiotis said the teen had been stalking her for months — something the teen suspect acknowledged on livestreams of his MLB co-op games, which attracted thousands of followers on TikTok.

They did something: they immediately distanced themselves from him once the news picked up this story. The reporting is terrible bc a lot is via NJ.com which is a garbage site but he is the nephew of the chief of police (his dad, the chiefs brother, is also a cop), and the chief was very quick to make a statement that was basically like “hey fuck this kid, not my family (except he literally is)”.

He also initially got away with it. Despite the fact that she had a restraining order and a history of issues with this boy he runs her and her friend down in cold fucking blood going 3x the speed limit. So what do the cops do? Give him 15 tickets and let him go home of course. And what does he do? Immediately livestreams and talks about the crime like he didn’t just straight up murder them.

I mean maybe I’m crazy but this reeks of Elliot Rodger misogynist incel shit. People just want literally everything to be politics now. Tbf that is more right wing but it’s not necessarily political as much as it’s nihilism. I’m sure the Charlie Kirk thing was true but it’s probably the spark that set off the misogynistic bomb. Like he wasn’t going out to murder libs, if that makes sense? He was looking for an excuse to murder this girl that he felt owed him sex or whatever. Real bad shit

3x the speed limit is also 8x the kinetic energy, which for a 2,000 kg vehicle is about 1 Mega-joules

You have to remember the imperial to metric conversion.

The Charlie Kirk thing is reference to comments he made while streaming after. It could just be the thing that broke him out doesn't necessarily have to be the root cause.

Isn't that a trait of serial killers? Bringing up the murder they committed to give it fame while preemptively denying any blame and attributing it to bullying.

Eh. A lot of “traits of serial killers” have extremely weak or no evidence base. AFAIK the constellation of bedwetting, setting fires, and animal abuse is the only real evidence based set of personality traits (which was still extremely weak). And even then it’s widely anecdotally repeated that any of these behaviors counts the way you describe (“he abused animals? That’s a sign of being a serial killer!!”) when the Macdonald triangle was considered a predictor with all three behaviors in conjunction.

But generally even that is considered kind of crap nowadays. predictors in the modern sense are more predictable and less salacious: significant neglect and abuse history, empathy issues, antisocial behavior, impulsivity, and narcissism. But this list is so vague (intentionally so) because it’s less about predicting “serial killers” (which is a foolish game) and more about predicting who is at risk of committing violent crime.
