Be nice. Assume others have good intent (within reason).

Moderator Guidelines
Moderator Guidelines
- Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
- Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
- When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
- Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
- Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

..the UK has blocked imgur? WHY?
I think it’s the other way around. UK passed an online “safety” act recently. Imgur don’t want the hassle of having to comply with it. I don’t blame them.
This isn't what happened. Imgur was being fined for collecting data of under 13s without parental consent and so decided to block the UK. I won't say the OSA didn't factor into this as I'm not privy to that information, but the main cause seems to be the fine under the Data Protection Act.
I thought that only applied to 18+ sites? Last I checked, it wasn't exactly like Imgur is overflowing with porn and gore or anything..
One of my favorite pieces of pornography was an imgur album. It's classy photos of a man in a suit progressively being less in a suit. Another is of a woman who seems at first like she's going to be doing a series of normal pornographic photos, but she's interrupted by a horde of garden gnomes who attack her in a non-sexual way.

if the uk ever causes https://deshommesetdeschatons.tumblr.com/ to get blocked imma lose my shit
Good thing I'm already into furries or that page might be dangerous~
AFAIK, it applies to any site offering "adult content"
Banking, only the most absolute degenerates do that.
Other way round. Imgur blocked the UK because they were apparently collecting children's personal data without proper parental consent, so rather than comply with the law and/or pay a fine they decided to just block the UK.

Compared to every PM post-Cameron, Starmer is relatively normal.
Compared to every competent PM however (not including Thatcher), Starmer should have put the labourer to #1, and combatted the media control of billionnaires, by forcing them to break up, and forcing social media to depict a more positive narrative of socialism.
First the finances must be under the control of labourers; then the media; then the rest must follow.
To protect the children /s
