1 sure looks like him activating a shock collar because he doesn't want her allowed to do anything other than sit in one designated spot while he's doing his stream

2 is self-explanatory

There's no fucking debate, dude. It sickens me to see so many people try to defend this, and that the dude is so popular in leftist circles. That's why it should be an outrage. I'm sick of seeing leftists prop up this dude and ignore/defend any bad he does, especially now with animal abuse.

The dog moved out of bed, he got annoyed at her, reached out of screen, and she yelped. Since then people have found other clips of similar stuff happening: his dog staying in the same spot for hours, and when she tries to leave or reposition he reaches out of screen and she goes back. And the remote can even be spotted in some streams before he hides it.

Even if you don't think shock collars themselves are bad, forcing a dog to stay in such a small place for hours without even a water bowl amounts to abuse. And his constant lies and contradictions show that knows what he is doing is fucked.

All of these streamers suck anyway. I don't care about their personal life but I care about the views they are peddling and the impact their word has on their communities.
The Right streaming sphere also has a few despicable characters, but I don't see the same witch hunt for them as for Hasan. iirc some also have abused animals if that's your specific trigger.
This is simply identity politics and why political discourse is untenable nowadays.

For the dog part, I think it's horrible to use a shock collar, and on the same level, police dogs and horses are also abused in the same way. Western culture sees eating dog meat as immoral, but some see eating any animal as immoral. Everybody has their own moral compass for this and I don't go policing others for their views.

In answer to what you're saying, firstly, I find it fucked up to call it identity politics. People don't want animals to be abused, and so they call it out and post about it like they do for other news.

Anyway, I'm a leftist. I don't really consume right wing media and I don't engage with those communities. And as a leftist it hurts me to see other leftists give a pass to someone like Hasan because it's just giving ammo to people on the right, and when it's such a large community it can make a big stain and push new people out. Not to mention no one should be given a pass. Like, Hasan fans will literally bend over backwards to defend it and act like a cult. Dude has already made several excuses and finally landed on "she wasn't even wearing a collar", even though you can see it in the vod; but if you post screenshots his fans will say it's photoshopped. I'm not good enough with words to convey my feelings on this phenomenon and my distaste for those people. There's more to mention, but this comment is large enough.

Finally, in answer to your last paragraph, it's a fair point in general, but in my case I'm a vegan.

I'm not giving him a pass. I just don't see how the outrage is proportional to the crime. There is a literal genocide going on, but we care more about his dog than children being starved.
Like I said, other right wingers don't get the same scrutiny. Of course nobody likes animal abuse, so that's the easiest motive they can use to discredit his political stance.

How is it not identity politics? Had it been a random guy sure, but this is overshadowing the political discourse to focus on the person and framing it as you vs us. The president wearing a tan suit? Scandal! An elected republican killing their dog? No problem.
Associating views like mine as "giving him a pass" also plays into their hand to divide the left. Either I reject him or I accept him entirely, no middle ground, while I may agree on some stuff politically, as a person, I never met him and I don't care about him.

[–] The_Terrible_Humbaba@slrpnk.net 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I wasn't saying you specifically, but funny how "there is a genocide going on" is the same crap he says to deflect. I can give a shit about more than one thing at once.

This is not overshadowing political discourse. We can talk and care about more than one thing at once. And who is the "you" and the "us" in this case? And who says I don't care if a right winger kills their dog? Everything you say is some version of whataboutism.

What if instead of animal abuse, he assaulted someone? What if it was sexual assault? What if he murdered someone? Where is the line at which point we are allowed to talk about it and condemn it? When does it go so far you can't deflect it with "there's a genocide"?

Let me turn that on you; you have comments on your account in the last month talking about tech and cars. How can you talk about that when there's a genocide going on?

And yes, you should fully reject a fucking abuser, it has nothing to do with their politics. I already told I'm a leftist and I can do it, so you can to. Stop protecting a fucking abuser.

I talk about the genocide because that's what is eclipsed by all the haters that started this witch hunt.
The you and us is the out group and in group, can be anything; but in this case I'm labeled as an animal abuse defender because I don't immediately reject someone based on a 30s clip where a dog yelps. To the point where you doubt my moral line, suggesting I wouldn't care if he killed someone... Everything is black and white, either you agree entirely or you are the enemy.

If you want to inspect me further I can provide my reddit and hacker news account. You would see there that I do in fact care about what's happening currently (Palestine and other issues, geopolitical or not). Maybe you want to know which protests I have attended too if that's not enough.

Again I'm not advocating to defend Hasan as a pure no wrong doer, he's a rich asshole like every other. After more evidence has come to light, it seems true he's not a good dog owner, so yeah I'll give him the same level of attention as before: nearly zero. On the other hand it could as well have been a "we did it reddit" moment with someone being harassed by the usual hater group with free support because dog yelps.

I never doubted you care about Palestine, I'm just pointing how you can care about other stuff at the same time - good or bad. It seemed you were implying I can't care it because I'm calling out animal abuse. All is not black or white, but animal abuse is a pretty large line to cross. I was mostly ok with the left not criticizing him and ignoring him when he acted like a douche because it wasn't worth the trouble I suppose, but animal abuse should be called out. And when he and his fans go around gaslighting people - and you even have "leftist" streamers (if they aren't just clout chasers) contradicting each other trying to defend him - it's even more important to call it out and not let it be swept under the rug. Especially since the right can also seize the opportunity to take the moral high ground. I've even seen "apolitical" people calling it out and mocking it, but the few leftists who even mention it do it with kid's gloves.

Anyway, I don't remember exactly what my first comment here even was, but the gist of my point is: the dude abuses his dog and tries to gaslight people, we can care about multiple stuff, this shouldn't just be ignored, I think other leftists should at least condemn and call it out instead of looking away while others try to bury it. That's all.
