what happened to reddit - who bought it ?
After the Inauguration, Musk visited Spez on February, and they permabanned thousands, perhaps millions of their most active users. I had a 12 year account, nearly a million Karma, and I was permabanned for repeating an opinion that I had posted numerous times without a word from any mod. Trump gets inaugurated, and suddenly it's enough to get me permabanned.
And there were lots of others. The purge gutted Reddit, and left it filled with nothing but bots and trolls.
i believe musk complained at least 2 occasions, against r/whitepeopletwitter and then in general. which led to more aggressive bans. whats new is that when they temporarily suspended, all your other accounts that participated in the same subs were also banned. plus shadowbans were also increasing as well.
Reddit started deploying thier AI moderation at the same time, which led to shadowbans and regular bans, which wernt appealable in most cases. they used to have a time limit when you were partially sub banned, and it were to wear off, but reddit/AI decided that the previous listed bans are considered ban evasions so all accounts tied to your IP, FINGERPRINT, device were instantly banned.
plus they also upped thier detection of non-propaganda bots ban evaders too(OF fans and link farmers). i have suspicion they largely ignore most propaganda bots. people using anti-detect software/ sophisticated proxies,,,etc.
because these other non-propaganda bots compete with the propaganda bots, and could drown out thier right wing or astroturfing messaging.
It’s incredibly annoying how sensitive Reddit is. You can get banned for the smallest things and even without evidence. I get wanting to foster community and communication but they will stagnate much more wrinkly than other social media apps with their current policies. I don’t see how they’ll keep growing and satisfy shareholders with their banning happy way of doing things. I do not feel like setting up another email and using a different VPN location every time they ban me.
They didn't use to be that way. I went a decade with no bans or warnings, but the last years got crazy. It fell completely apart after Trump was inaugurated.
I've tried to evade the ban, but they catch up to you eventually. I got a new phone, ditched all the Reddit cookies, signed up on a different network in another state, with a new email, etc..
At first, it took them a few weeks to find me, and they quickly went from a 3 day ban, to a week long ban, to a permanent ban, in quick succession. Then I'd have to do it all over again. The send time took them about a week. The third time took a few days.
The final time, I went to all the trouble, and I was permabanned before I finished my first post. They got my number, they're watching out for me. I'm a Reddit Outlaw, and I couldn't be prouder.
