This is not the first time Israel was caught doing this. It has been going on for decades.
It's not hard to believe, not in the slightest. OP's merely saying this is thin sauce (so far) and the article's only further evidence, outside of this one incident, is the link you posted.
But, as I commented just now, how much evidence is getting out when the genocide machine includes journalists?
It's not about me having a problem to call Israel a terror state, but a piece of text that pretends to be or is at least presented as a journalistic piece obviously not even trying to be neutral at all.
If someone tells you there exists a ring of sadists torturing kids to drink their blood, are we expected to refute the claims?
I know I have not posted my criticism in the most adequate manner, but come on, don't you have any demand in journalistic standards?
I could claim the IDF is eating babies alive and people would still up vote it.
Journalism shouldn't "try to be neutral" they should pursue the truth. The truth is that the IDF is a genocidal force. To try to frame that in a neutral way is to give aid to the genocide.
The truth isn't neutral.
perhaps some more contex on why they may have been thought to be toys (but from Lebanon not Gaza)

What is described here is no less despicable though
Right in the OP:
Lemmy: No.
I've given up on journalism digging deep and so much as pretending to be neutral. Anyway, not sure I'd count this as journalism. It's a thinly covered editorial.
We got one reported incident and claims of systemic abuse. If they have all this and not one bit of backup?
They did bring evidence for Israel pulling this in Lebanon 30 years ago, and it's not difficult to believe, but can a brother get a link or three?
OTOH, how much evidence can we expect from a genocidal regime that systemically kills journalists? For all we know there are 500 such incidents as of today.
The first sane comment I've read on this thread.
Yeah you're probably not going to see this story on CNN, BBC, NYT et al. for some time (if ever) because all the big news corps are doing their best to keep things like this as quiet as possible. Just compare the difference in quantity and detail of stories about the released captives from each side as an example.
It's hard to get quality photo and video evidence of anything in Gaza when Israel has blocked any outside journalists from entering and continues to target and kill local journalists.
You're right that this isn't high quality journalism, but we may not get to see this otherwise. There's no need to fabricate the atrocities committed by Israel because the reality is bad enough. I don't like the amount of effort I have to go to to gather information to make up my mind about a story, but that's exactly what Israel and its backers want. There probably are better-written articles in other languages available, but I don't think anything that isn't in English can be posted here.
That said, there are several other sources that quote the Director General of Gaza’s Health Ministry as saying they have found bombs disguised as toys:

Israel is a terrorist state. They are committing genocide against the Semitic Palestinian people in the country of Palestine.
Which has literally nothing to do with this article being unprofessional.
Yea… I’ll believe a toilet paper rag over the Israeli government any day of the week at this point.
People reporting on the genocidal Israeli regime don’t even have a reason to lie at this point. All they have to report is what the Israeli government and Netanfukyu has already done and is currently doing. You are a bot.
I know you probably only mean this as insult, but it's a very dangerous way to deal with opinions that don't match your narrative.
You’re opinions don’t match reality
beep boop I am a bot
Do you deny the genocide in Gaza?
Devils advocate here. Shady journalism is shady regardless of what side of our bias it lands on.
