Let's assume the government secretly created its own flying saucers so that they could later, at the right moment, simulate an alien invasion. That is, there were no aliens on our planet, but the global conspiracy decided to use this as a trump card to distract attention from something important, like a collapse, or simply —> oh no, an unidentified flying object accidentally blew up the servers where people's money was stored. What a coincidence!

In short, I think it was the government that invented UFOs and used UFOs, like other crap, to distract people from what's important, like in the case of television.

In the absence of useful evidence, apply the appropriate razor(s):

Alder's razor (also known as Newton's flaming laser sword): If something cannot be settled by experiment or observation, then it is not worthy of debate.
Hanlon's razor: Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.
Hitchens' razor: That which can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.
Occam's razor: Explanations that require fewer unjustified assumptions are more likely to be correct; avoid unnecessary or improbable assumptions.
Popper's falsifiability criterion: For a theory to be considered scientific, it must be falsifiable.
Sagan standard: Positive claims require positive evidence, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

And also, The Dork's Equation: Always remember that the shadowy government conspiracy that is allegedly hiding aliens and crossbreeding Bigfoot is also made up of the very same government chucklefucks that couldn't cover up Watergate, and can't even reliably fix a pothole.
