Your ancestors got home from the pub passed out in the back of the wagon, knowing the horse would go home for his oats. That's how they survived long enough to produce you.

Edit: Before that, your ancestors got to your ancestral home by making the wrong turn at Albuquerque or Namibia or accidentally crossing an ice bridge.
